Freak Wind Damages Barn Collides With Car Near Clifton

A sudden gust at Thompson Hatcheries along Highway 6 north of Clifton Monday damaged a new pole barn and caused a 160 dollar collision with Glen Gustafson's car. Workmen inside the barn were startled as a 39 foot section shifted in the breeze.

Cancer Unit Meets Here Monday Night

Bosque County Unit of the American Cancer Society held its second fall meeting at Clifton City Hall on Monday night October 7. Mrs. T. N. Foster presided as president. roll was read and minutes approved. Committees reported activities since the last meeting and Frank Stockwell praised Walter B. Parks, Mrs. Foster, Mrs. M. S. Wilkins, and Mrs. Seljos for the Central Texas Fair booth and cancer material distributed. The county will be divided into four divisions with chairmen named: Dr. W. C. Baird Meridian, Mrs. H. R. Hill Clifton, E. D. (Si) Johnson Crawfish Gap, Mrs. Howard Johnson Valley Mills. Dan Amundson named vice chairman. Mrs. Foster said she and others would attend the district meeting in Temple on Tuesday. A motion approved thanks to the Jaycees, Lions Club, and fair association for fair booth space. Stockwell presented alarming cancer statistics and outlined an educational program for prevention, control, and treatment, with dates and chairmen for monthly topics from November through May. Attending were Lucille Watson, Mrs. Seljos, Foster, Lane, Vinson, Wilkins, Solberg Jr, Bonds, Downey, Johnson, Petrich, Dr. Baird, Bekkeland, Stockwell, and others.

Regular second Sunday Singing Convention at Riverside Baptist Church

Meridian residents are invited to a Gospel singing convention at Riverside Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon October 13 from 2:00 to 4:00 hosted by secretary Mrs. Hoyt Hutson. Mrs. W. M. Mrs C M Deal Sr Dies In Waco October 7

Mrs C M Deal Sr aged 77 of 1022 Lewis Street Waco died at 8 50 am Monday October 7 in a Waco hospital. She formerly lived in Valley Mills. Survivors include three sons C M Deal Jr Lowel A Deal and Douglas Deal two daughters Alton Hix and Norvin F Wood one sister A F McFadden seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren Funeral services were held at the Wilkerson and Hatch chapel in Waco at 4 pm Tuesday October 8 with interment in Valley Mills Cemetery.

Beloved Clifton Lady Dies After Long Illness

Anna Odegaard aged 88 and 4 months died October 5 at Memorial Hall of the Clifton Sunset Home after declining health since a hip fracture in 1961 and strokes. Born in Minneapolis in 1875 she married Rev G G Odegaard in 1902 and moved to Texas where she served as organist and choir director in Clifton. She leaves four children Olaf, Esther Capps Ruth Nelson and Alice Rockway and was predeceased by her husband in 1912 and daughter in 1929.

Clifton CPS honors four long service employees

Four Clifton Community Public Service Company workers received service pins at the Central Division fall meeting awards dinner held at the National Guard Armory on Thursday October 3. Dad's Night PTA Meets Monday in Clifton

The Clifton Public Schools PTA designated Dad's Night will be held at 7 30 Monday in Bettis Auditorium. Nine year old undergoes brain operation in Houston

Alan Darsey Jr a Clifton boy and son of Mr and Mrs Alan Darsey underwent emergency brain surgery at the M D Anderson Clinic in Houston from about 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM last Sunday. Doctors found a brain tumor which proved benign after headaches and nausea for about ten days. The family remained at his bedside with Mr Darsey shuttling between Houston and home.

Juniors Play Valley Mills as B Team Games Canceled

Clifton's B team was to host Whitney B on Thursday but the match was called off. Next Tuesday October 15 Clifton's undefeated Junior High travels to Valley Mills to face Valley Mills juniors. Clifton's B beat Reicher B 28 to 12 and the Clifton Juniors remained undefeated with a 28 to 14 win over Lorena Junior High.
