Sunset Home Celebrates 10th Anniversary Howling Success
Sunset Home marked its tenth anniversary with a weekend event held Saturday night and Sunday. About 900 to 1,900 people attended the barbecue supper and chapel program while donations from the celebration topped several hundred dollars beyond a reported $600 and $800 from two events. Odie C Pedersen led the celebration as superintendent as Charlie Schmidt oversaw the kitchen staff. The event featured a 600 pound Sunset Sam steer donated by Martin S Hoe Jr and a second 80 pound yearling, with venison, barbecue, sides, and beverages. The Wheeler Centers provided music and Roy Trout staged a spectacular fireworks display through Atlas Fraternities.

John Canuteson, son of Mr and Mrs Oren J Canuteson Sr of Route 2 Clifton, rode the train to Chicago Illinois last Wednesday to begin English graduate studies at the University of Chicago. He holds a BA in English from the University of Texas. Spending Tuesday night with the family were Mr and Mrs Robert W Pfennig of Austin and their daughter Laura Jane Pfennig of Waco.

Ulas Jones Dies After Stroke At Local Clinic Hospital
Ilas J Jones aged 81 years 3 months 2 days died at the Goodall and Witcher Clinic Hospital after a stroke at his Fairview home. Born July 2 1883 in Alabama he moved to McLennan then Bosque County and farmed over 50 years. He was blind for 14 years and survived by relatives in Bosque County.

Joe R. Grimland owner of Grimland Photography Studio in Grand Prairie and son of Mrs. R Bass of Clifton was set to discuss portraits and painted backgrounds at the Professional Photographers Association of Central Texas meeting at 7 30 p m Thursday at Lake Air Mall in Waco. The fall festival of fine photography on display at the Mall runs through October 15 and features industrial commercial and portraiture work by association members. Grimland is a past president of the Dallas association and a director of both the Texas and Southwestern Professional Photographers Associations. Jack R. Hill reports a cow and her calf were killed by lightning on Sunday September 27 at his farm. The calf was nursing at the time of the strike. The animals were formerly owned by John Moore.

The Clifton Record reports a REA loan approved for the Clifton Telephone Company. Congressman Poage's office advised a loan of 197000 to fund facilities for 232 new subscribers, including ten miles of line, over ten years. Co owner Bill Blewett says funds cover growth, ease earlier expansion costs, and support rural line improvements from eight to four party lines.

Otto Anderson Dies Suddenly at 79 in Clifton
Otto Anderson aged 79 years eight months five days of 1215 West 5th Street Clifton died from a heart attack around 6:30 am Tuesday October 6 at his home. He had a heart condition for five or six years and remained active as a carpenter. Funeral services were held October 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church Clifton with Rev Erwin H Knitt officiating and pallbearers Emroy Pederson Preston Anderson Charles Fehler Jr Calvert G Helms Chris Strand Everett W Wallace. Interment followed in Clifton.

Construction cost is estimated at 22000 with 12000 to be spent initially for foundation walls floor and roof.
