In a busy note on local sports, Haltom City hosts a Friday night clash as the Cubs look to rise to the occasion. The piece contrasts holiday fatigue in small business with grid action and hints at a strong performance by the Cubs.
Readers who have not yet registered to vote in the coming 1970 election year are urged to do so. A blank form is printed on Page 2 and registration blanks are available at the County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office in the courthouse at Meridian and at most county banks. The form is simplified this year, and registrants may mail the completed blank to the Tax Assessor-Collector in Meridian to receive their registration receipts.
Santa to land by helicopter in Clifton Saturday around 2 p.m. Officials from CPS and Clifton Telephone helped light downtown decorations for the first pre Christmas visit. Santa will be available to talk to kids after the landing as merchants launch Yuletide sales beginning Wednesday November 26.
Clifton High Cubs dominated Crowley Eagles 43 to 0 in a Bi-District clash at Hillsboro. Key blocks and strong running by James Wiede Joe Wallace and others fueled scoring including two touchdowns by Dreyer on a 34 yard run. The Cubs extend a strong Bi-District record with 7 wins in 8 games over ten years. Another note: local art exhibit planned at Bosque Memorial Museum Sunday from 2 to 5 pm featuring Dallas area and Clifton artists.
Clifton's Bi District Champion Cubs travel to Haltom City Friday night at 8 to face the Honey Grove Warriors in the Texas Schoolboy Playoffs second round. The winner advances to the 1969 regional title game.
Goodall-Witcher Hospital Foundation leaders Jim Smith and Helen Aars report progress on Clifton area's new 14-bed hospital project after meetings with GARCC and HTCG. Both panels back alignment with 1969 state plan and speed up plans. The foundation also approves a second coronary care unit to ensure constant readiness.
A Community Thanksgiving Banquet will be held in Valley Mills at 7 p.m. on Saturday December 6. Congressman Bob Poage will speak as the event recognizes recent project completions and encourages ongoing community initiatives. Tickets are available from Jesse Gandy in Meridian Sam Logan or Bob Baldridge in Clifton and at the Bank of Post Office in Valley Mills. Everyone is invited to attend.
Clifton Civic Improvement Society to host a 3 p.m. meeting December 3 at City Hall dining room with Mrs. Dana Maxfield of Waco Lone Star Gas presenting Christmas Cookery. Mrs. B Dahl will report on Nellie Pederson Civic Library services. hostesses named as Mrs. Seljos Thompson Jermstad and Lyon.
The Crawfills Gap Lif Booster Club sponsors a Lutefisk-Turkey Supper Saturday night December 6 at the local cafeteria. Serving runs 5 to 9 PM with proceeds benefiting the school athletic program. Advance tickets available from Meridian Bank, Clifton vendors, or local club members.
