Bosque County 4H awards mark fifth achievement banquet

Fifty eight Bosque County 4H Club members received swords at the Fifth Annual Achievement Banquet in the National Guard Armory Clifton on Saturday night November 6. Bob Viertel presided as master of ceremonies and awards were presented by Judge Jack Railsback and others while leaders were honored for years of service.

Mrs Myrtle Whaley aged 69 of Caldwell died Thursday November 14 in a Bryan hospital after a five week illness with leukemia. Survived by three sons Jerry Godby Clifton J C Godby Waco and Cabble Godby LaGrange one daughter Mrs Billy Hildebrand Caldwell and nine grandchildren Funeral services held November 16 at a Caldwell funeral home chapel with burial in Caldwell Cemetery Attending from Clifton were Mr and Mrs Jerry Godby and sons Bill Jerry Don and Tommy.

Mrs. Douglas Hill of Abilene visited her mother Mrs. C. Westgaard at Sunset Home. Mrs. H J Nichols of Coyote returned from Houston after visiting to meet her new great grand daughter Melissa Jean Ludwig, daughter of Richard and Emily Ludwig.

Clifton Band wins first in region marching contest

Clifton High School's 44 member band led by drum major Helen Wiederanders earned a first division rating at the University Interscholastic League Regional Marching Contest in Bryan. Other Class A bands Midway Mart Lorena Copperas Cove received second division while Franklin Rogers Kerens placed third.

Plane Crash Kills Jack Kirby and Three Others

Texas wool buyer Jack Kirby aged 53 was among four killed when a plane owned by Kelly Owens nosed into a hillside near Leedey Oklahoma on November 19. Also dead were Owens and two others. Kirby’s wife and relatives survived the wreck. Funeral services were held in Meridian.

Reverend Woodruff Resigns as Clifton Pastor

Reverend M. D. Woodruff resigns after four years as pastor of the First Baptist Church Clifton effective November 24. He will become minister of Windsor Park Presbyterian Church in Austin. A reception for the Woodruffs is planned at 8:00 p.m. Sunday November 24 in the Educational Building of the First Baptist Church. Public invitation extended.

Jaycees Sponsor Annual Turkey Shoot This Weekend

Clifton Jaycees sponsor their annual turkey shoot at the Fair barns area on the local golf course Saturday and Sunday November 23 and 24. Events run 10 AM to 6 PM Saturday and 1 to 6 PM Sunday with guns available or bring own rifles and shotguns.
