About 300 Clifton area FHA members attended the District I Area VIII meeting at Clifton High School Bettis Auditorium on November 12. The program included sessions, officer nominations for 1961-62, and a noon luncheon with district and guest officials.
Patrolman James A Wright of the Texas Highway Patrol reports October 1960 rural accidents in Bosque County three crashes with one death two injuries and $1 235 in damage In the first ten months of 1960 86 rural crashes killed five injured 36 393 00 in damage Compared with 1959 ten month totals 64 crashes two deaths 35 injuries and 37 164 00 damage.
A sudden tire screech and glazed crash in Clifton caused two large plate glass windows to shatter at the Clifton Mercantile Company. A Ford and an Oldsmobile were driven into the store. no serious injuries reported though property damage is estimated well over $10,000 with cars and walls damaged and insurance adjusters assessing losses.
Owen David Ringness, former Clifton Community Public Service Company employee, returns as division engineer for CPS Central Texas. He holds a B S in Electrical Engineering from Texas A M and has worked in South East Texas. W L Spieler named division maintenance supervisor for substations transmission and distribution. Ringness is married with four children and active in Trinity Lutheran Church.
Edward D Edd Stapp aged 83 years 17 days of this city died at 11 00 Saturday night November 12 at Clifton Hall Sunset Home after illness. Born October 25 1877 in Kentucky he married Emma Wallace in McLennan County on November 17 1901. He lived in Bosque County farmed near Clifton Meridian area and later worked as foreman on the Ferguson Ranch before retirement. Survived by two brothers two sisters and many nieces and nephews. Funeral 2 00 Monday at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Clifton Cemetery. He was a Baptist and active in local Democratic circles.

Relatives and friends of Mr and Mrs Frank Thiele of Route 3 Valley Mills are invited to an open house at their home Sunday afternoon November 27 from 2:30 to 4:30 to honor their golden wedding anniversary. It is requested that there be no gifts.

Children of Mr and Mrs Arthur Eugene Quest Sr of Lubbock will hold an open house at 3311 46th Street between 3 and November 20 to mark their parents gold en wedding anniversary. Mr Quest grew up in Clifton and is nephew of the late O E Schow Sr Clifton relatives and friends were invited to attend.
Clifton Cubs and Mart Panthers clash Friday at 7 30 P M in Clifton for the bi district championship. Clifton boasts a tougher defense and strong district record while Mart relies on a heavy line and a potent running game led by Jones Harris and Fox as both teams seek a regional bid. Seats are $1 25 in advance and at the gate. general admission is $1.25 with student prices 50 to 75 cents.
Bosque County hunters depart for Hill Country while fresh activity brings many deer seekers to the county. C H Swede Johnson, county game warden, reports good deer prospects and fat deer in farmers and ranchers fields. Doe and land lease permits rise with 700 doe permits issued and 104 land lease permits, drawing hunters from Dallas Fort Worth Waco Austin and Houston. The doe check station is at Red Mantooth Sinclair Service Station in Meridian. Joe Stevens will supervise with Mantooth assisting for Fish and Game Commission data.
Henry E Moore 49 of 3401 Bosque Blvd Waco dies in a pickup rollover at Haverbekken low water crossing Neils Creek near Norse. Archie Solberg also of Waco, survives with injuries after the driver apparently blacked out. Sequel details note possible heater fumes and therapeutic care, with Moore’s survivors listed and Solberg later seen by a bone specialist.
Clifton fund drive for Cub and Boy Scouts raised 1119.65 as of this Wednesday, surpassing the prior year by 106.15. Sustaining members pledge 484.65 yearly, and the drive drew 95 percent contact rate with under 100 volunteers at the early bird breakfast starting November 9.
Mr and Mrs Belford Ellingson and son Larry of Wichita Falls spent the weekend in the home of Ellingsons mother Mrs R E Ellingson J C Oswald of San Saba visited here briefly on Armistice Day with his parents Mr and Mrs W A Oswald Noyes Willett and sons Noyes IV and James of Austin visited Clifton last Sunday with Mr and Mrs N W Willett Mrs Hannah Anderson returned to Clifton after six weeks with her son in Garland and family Dawley Hills
Clifton officials approve an ordinance banning unreasonably loud or harsh noises in homes and public areas. The measure targets noisy signals and vehicle sounds that distress ordinary residents and interfere with private comfort.
Mrs. Ruby Floyd is installed as clerk in charge at Laguna Park post office by A. Bronstad postmaster of Clifton. R. S. Dillard previously served as clerk for years tied to his grocery business. The post office moved to a new location under the same roof as John's Drive-In with a separate front door.
Prices listed for Thursday morning show eggs at 45 cents per dozen for large. grain includes oats 60 cents per bushel and wheat 1.80 per bushel. Cattle sales at Clifton Wednesday topped steady ranges with slaughter steers 22 to 24 dollars, cows 14 to 16, stocker steers 20 to 23, and cows with calves 120 to 200 dollars. Hog tops 17.25 to 17.50, lamb tops 15.00.
