Bata Beta Chapter met in Waco on November 1 with attendees from Marlin and the district. The program featured a discussion on local service and a musical interlude titled Rims Etude F Sharp Minor followed by remarks from an attorney. May Averitt was named an honorary member.

Mrs. Joe Oxwald, 88, of Waco route 70, died Tuesday in Waco. Funeral services are set for Thursday afternoon in Waco with burial in a local cemetery pending arrival of children. Surviving are her husband, Joe Oxwald. seven sons and daughters-in-law, including Lawrence, Own, Lowi, Gilmer, Woodrow of Waco, Robert of McGregor, B. B. of Fort Worth. three daughters Mrs Kraft of Waco, Mrs W T Hughes, and MD K Howard of Washington. Mrs Dick Trice and Mrs J W Hastin of Waco. Mrs Tillie Oxwald of Los Angeles. a brother Albert Ingram of Waco. numerous Clifton relatives attended. Born in McLennan County, she lived there all her life.
Burton Hoff, 28, son of Mr and Mrs Otin B Hott of Curton, completes 20 weeks of Army Air Corps pilot training at Maffett Field Flying School. He earned his wings and will receive a second lieutenant commission then report to an Air Corps defense unit or Army flying school. Hoff arrived Aug 18 after primary training at Hemet California. He is a Clifton High School graduate who lettered in football and accumulated 43 hours flying under the GAA program.
John W. Sinders, grandson of Clifton resident Mr Patterson, extends enlistment with the Marine Corps for two more years while stationed at Cavite Philippines. Details mention duty assignments and completed training as part of the period extension.

Mrs Will Lacy aged fifty eight died suddenly at her Clifton area home Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness. She had been in good health for some time but suffering a severe shock to her family and friends as the cause of death was sudden and unexpected. Her husband Will Lacy Jr and their children survive along with several relatives and neighbors.
Jack Nabors, son of Mr and Mrs John Nabors near Clifton, is ordered to report November 6 to Braxton Flying Service Cuero Texas for seven and a half months initial phase of Army Air Corps enlisted pilot training. Nabors, topkick of 610th School Squadron at Goodfellow Field, will earn staff sergeant pilot rank with base pay of 108 dollars monthly. He is an 1940 Clifton High School graduate aiming to qualify as a pilot.
Nov. 16 is designated Visitors Day at Camp Bowie Texas home of the 36th Division Families will tour tents recreation rooms shops and central chapels to observe daily life A noon meal in the Company Mess Hall and a guided camp tour by soldiers are offered Brig Gen Fred T Walker notes the event aims for family contact with loved ones and no divisional entertainment is planned while unit commanders are urged to encourage informal programs.
Clifton FFA hosts a poultry school with Dr A G Gresard from Fort Worth assisting on November 8 at 2:30 pm in the Chris Aur building. Volunteers provide chairs and tables as Clifton FFA promotes increased egg production and poultry product knowledge through selection, tampering and inspection efforts.
Bosque County AAA officials warn that wheat farmers who exceed 1942 allotments face losing full parity and conservation payments as well as loans. The deduction rate for excess wheat rises to ten times the 1941 rate, potentially wiping out all payments if excess exceeds ten percent. Non allotment options allow limited overage but with strict total limits.
Mr and Mrs O A Tergerson marked their silver wedding anniversary with a Sunday gathering. Relatives and friends arrived in the afternoon for cake, hot drinks, and a sing song led by Mr and Mrs Url alternated at the piano. Rev Gigstad offered words of cheer and congratulations. Family members included Matt Johnson Cranfills Gap Mrs Torgersons father, Mrs Cath Hughes Houston, Milton and Leland Torgerson Clifton, and others from the area.
