Clifton resident Willie Wenzel is among 24 adults from 4H clubs named Volunteer Adult Leader Award recipients by the Texas 4H Foundation. The group will attend the State Round-Up at Texas A M College Station June 4 and 5 with a press conference and luncheon. Wenzel has 10 years as Clifton Community 4H Organization Leader and has supported beef cattle projects, livestock grooming, and demonstrations.

The 1963 Clifton High School graduating class of 37 received diplomas at the Bettis Auditorium Tuesday night May 28. Valedictorian Janice Willenborg and salutatorian Stephen Rester led the program with remarks by Dr George Stokes. Charlotte Miles won the Lions Club 25 scholarship. Bernard Erickson and David Westley earned state championships and college scholarships.

Texas Highway Department expands emergency short wave network
The Texas Highway Department and Civil Defense join to create a state wide short wave system with base stations in Bosque County at Clifton and Meridian and five mobile units. Clifton staff includes T. H. Ralph Warren Cowan Mrs Clyde Seljos Jerry Godby and Glen Beckner. Range covers Waco Hamilton Hillsboro Cleburne and Stephenville. The system can relay messages across the state, reducing travel miles for officials and includes a gasoline powered backup during power outages.

Clifton Braves, a young men's baseball team, lost 12 to 3 to the Lake Air Cardinals of Waco at Clifton City Park, then won 15 to 5 against Whitene from the same city at Whit ney. The schedule lists games with McGregor and Clifton colored team upcoming. Gerald Ray Oswald earned a Master of Arts degree May 19 at Sam Houston State Teachers College Huntsville. He has taught in Houston Public Schools for four years. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Edward Oswald of Star Route 1 Clifton. Reverend and Mrs Guy H Wilson hosted visitors last Friday, with Reverend and Mrs Lester Davenport of Temple. Mrs Davenport is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jess M White of this city.

Blacks Open Season With Double Win
The Clifton Black Sox open the 1963 summer Teen-Age baseball program with a 9 5 peewee win and a 12 5 freshman victory over Clifton Green Sox. A Clifton Red Sox Turnersville game was postponed to Wednesday. An extra peewee team at Valley Mills brings seven peewee squads.

The Texas Water Commission issued permit No 2050 allowing Clifton to take up to 600 acre feet annually from the Bosque River for its water needs. Water would come from the Santa Fe reservoir above the Bosque dam near Clifton, estimated at about 100 acre feet. Rates capped at four cubic feet per second. City plans pending further study. Charles Isenhower spoke for Clifton before the commission in May.

Robert Hutchison dies at 64 in Bosque County
Robert Bob Hutchison 64 7 4 of Star Route 1 Clifton died May 26 at Sanatorium after long illness. He was born October 22 1898 near Whitney and lived in Garnersville Cayote and Fairview areas. Survived by three brothers two sisters a nephew and three nieces. Funeral services to be continued.
