Clifton Braves won two weekend games the first 20 against McGregor and the second 8 2 against a local colored team. Three hits by Clifton and two by McGregor highlight a tight win.
Mr and Mrs Tommy Roy Bates welcome Timothy Eyal born May 26 1963 in Clifton hospital weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces. Reverend and Mrs Iver M Haugen announce Lynneil Marie born May 30 1963 in Clifton hospital weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces. Mr and Mrs Bradley Cox report Carl Ladonne born June 2 1963 in Clifton hospital weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces. Mr and Mrs D T Spitzer say Jenet Lynne born June 4 1963 in local hospital weighing 5 pounds 2 ounces. Al e and Mrs Leroy Sorenson of Tucson announce Dennice Rae born May 28 1963 at Air Base Hospital in Tucson with Marion Sorenson and Walter Gray as grandparents.
Members of the Ladies Auxiliary of Selmer Erickson Post No 322 of the American Legion in Clifton will install officers for the coming year at a banquet at City Cafe at 6:00 PM on Wednesday June 12. District auxiliary president Mrs Thelma Pipes of Waco will serve as installing officer.
Funeral services were held for Roy Yocham Jr 35 of Irving at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday afternoon following his death Wednesday in a Dallas hospital. He was born at Whitney nicknamed KZ and lived in Clifton as a youth attending Clifton Public Schools. Survived by wife two sons Koy and Micky Lane a daughter Belinda Jean three brothers Eugene Leslie John and four sisters Robbie Agnes Ruth Stella Mae. Interment at Clifton Cemetery.
Mrs. A H Spitzer a long time Bosque County resident died at Clifton hospital after illness on May 29 at age 88 years 6 months 28 days She had lived in Garnersville near Clifton and Memorial Hall since 1962 Funeral services were held May 31 at Trinity Lutheran Church Clifton with Rev Erwin Knitt and Rev Walter Gigstad pallbearers were local men She was born November 1 1874 at Prairie Hill Brenham and married August H Spitzer in 1897 The Spitzer family mourns her passing with six sons one daughter twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren living in several states and countries.
Bosque County residents learned with sorrow of the death of Alfred L Bakke at his Clifton home on Monday morning June 3. He was 76 years, 11 months, and 18 days old. Born in Norway, he married Christina Nikolaisen in 1905 and had three children Iver, Alvin, and Nina. He lived in Clifton since 1941 and worked as a carpenter and in shipyards and aircraft plants earlier in life.
Mr and Mrs Mike Stewart and their son James David and Pat Stewart left last Sunday for Odessa where Mike and Pat plan to work this summer in the oil fields. Mike Stewart finished his sophomore year at Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos in May.
Clifton residents urged to join a June 7 meeting at 7 30 PM in the Clifton Public Schools Vocational Agriculture building to reorganize Troop 76. Gerald Peacock will serve as Scoutmaster through the summer guiding boys 11 and older in scouting activities and outings.
Clifton Teenage teams posted multiple victories in sophomore division with Clifton Red Sox 3 1 over Clifton Blue Sox and 15 4 over Turnersville. Clifton Blues toppled Crawfills Gap 14 3 while Clifton Green Sox edged Clifton Red Sox 5 4 in peewee and Reds won 5 4 over Greens. Black Sox swept Crawkills Gap 18 3 in freshman and 9 2 in peewee. Green Sox split with Turnersville freshmen 11 5, peewees 14 8 loss. Upcoming week schedules list games at Clifton and Cranfills Gap with Turnersville.
Mrs. Frieda Emma Zienert Prescher aged 82 years, 3 months, and 9 days, died Saturday afternoon June 1 in Clifton hospital after a long illness. She lived at the Sunset Home since 1962 with her daughter, and was buried after services at Zion United Church of Christ in Womack. She was survived by three sons, one daughter, nine grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Clifton Public Schools held a May 29 assembly in Bettis Auditorium awarding top honors by class. Freshmen Bobby Coffman Kay Roberts Sophomores Brent Standefer Kaye Conrad Juniors Ronny Thomas Carol Ann Lee and Seniors Emmett Eary Charlotte Miles won best all around.
The Texas Highway Patrol checked two automobile accidents in or near Clifton last Sunday with no serious injuries reported. At South Avenue H and West 9th St Leroy Reesing collided with Mrs Bobby Radwig as five youngsters rode in the car with Mrs Rachury. some damage but no injuries. At the intersection of Highway 219 and the Old Meridian highway Roy Miller Crayton and W W Wilkerson collided. there was property damage and no serious injuries.
Clifton City Council accepted the $11,600 bid by J. L. Meyers Sons of Denton to drill an additional water well near the reservoirs west of Clifton. Downs for paving were preliminarily identified as probable low bidder Downing Brothers of Waco. The council planned a final bid review Thursday before lettings. paving starts in July as graveling and street work continue citywide. The new fire house was to be inspected and possibly accepted if in proper condition.
Mrs Alfred Spitzer of Meridian underwent surgery at Clifton hospital June 5. Johnie Jenson Route 1 Meridian has been a patient since June 4. Mrs J C Vick Meridian is a Clifton hospital patient admitted June 4. Mrs Eddie Parks Martin Clifton teacher left last Thursday to Kerrville to counsel at the Lions Crippled Children's Camp again this summer.
About 350 head offered at Clifton auction with prices rising from good to choice levels. Steers and yearlings $22.50 to $24, butcher calves $23.50 to $26, stocker steers $23 to $26, steer calves $27 to $34, cows and calves $150 to $235. Hogs $16.75 to $17.
Walter Hansen principal awards valedictorian and salutatorian trophies to Janice Willenberg and Stephen Rester at Clifton High. Hansen also presents Stephen Rester with a separate trophy for excellent grades from the Professional Women's Study Guild.
