Consensus among quarter horse owners at the first annual show sponsored by the Bosque County 4H Riding Club praised the Clifton Horse Show arena facilities and smooth operation. Margaret Crimmins and Nika McNijell won top youth honors on May Date and Gray Kermit respectively, with many class winners listed across stallions mares geldings and performance events.

Ole M. Finstad Dies Here May 25
Friends in Bosque County report the death of Ole M. Finstad 78 in Clifton Hall at the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home after long illness. He was born May 23 1886 west of Clifton and served as Meridian constable and justice of the peace for a decade. Survived by son Orbin Finstad and daughter Mrs W H Baker, six grandchildren, six brothers, and several relatives. Funeral services were held May 27 at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home Chapel and Meridian Church of Christ with interment at Brooks Cemetery Paluxy.

Mr and Mrs Helmer C Dahl of 215 South Avenue celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with relatives and friends on May 17 six days before the actual date May 20. A three tier cake and gold decor framed the event with out of town guests from Norse Fort Worth Dallas and Houston attending the services and reception.

Awards included the Clifton Lions Club scholarship to Spitzer and a Balfour trophy for top honors to Spitzer, with other scholarships and athletic awards noted.

The Bosque County 4 H Club hosts a Dress Revue Saturday May 30 at 10:00 am in Meridian High School auditorium. About 25 girls model aprons skirts and dresses with adult leaders narrating. Entertainment features dancing pupils from Mrs Lester R Smiths class Mosheim 4 H Club girls and Christy Hansen Doris Smith and Laurie Knudson of Crawfills Gap. Melanie Muir of Koppers and Carolyn Reierson of Crawfills Gap join Miss Lucille Watson in teaching the 4 H girls to model. Mrs Olaf Rohne of Crawfills Gap has been a medical patient in Clifton hospital since May 26.

Clifton High Band Wins Region II Sweepstakes Trophy Again
Clifton High School’s band, under new director Glen Judah, earned the Region II Sweepstakes Trophy for the second straight year at the Marlin contest, marking first division status in marching, concert, and sight reading. The Clifton Band Parents Association could not elect officers at the May 18 meeting with only five members in attendance.

About 825 cattle were sold at Clifton with prices $1 to $2 lower than last week. Hog tops ranged from 15 to 15.40. Egg prices listed for Grade A large, medium, pullets, and cracks. Grain quotes included oats, milling wheat, barley, milo and yellow corn. Cattle ranges cover steers, yearlings, calves, bulls, stockers, and cows with specific price bands.
