Citizens are invited to participate and pay respects to all deceased veterans.
The American Legion and VFW members and families are invited to attend a noon lunch at the VFW Post on Memorial Day May 31. A memorial day service honoring the dead of all wars will precede or accompany the gathering with opportunity for fellowship and good food.
The Texas Animal Health Commission extends the state wide hog movement quarantine indefinitely due to new cholera outbreaks. It is unlawful to move hogs without a permit. Permits may be obtained by calling Bob Saver or Ken Jones at the provided numbers.
A Sunday night tornado near Lake Whitney left one dead, about 80 injured, and widespread destruction across Whitney and the Lamplight area. Home and farm buildings were damaged, power and phone lines were down, and emergency crews from Central Texas aided rescuers as residents faced a damaged water system and blocked roads.
The First Baptist Church Clifton men host an inspirational dinner in the church fellowship hall on Thursday May 27 at 7 00. Mrs W D Porter leads a supper prepared by the Baptist Women announcing ample food. Bill Scott vice president Word Inc of Waco will speak, sharing experiences and faith insights. About 50 to 75 men are expected.
Clifton's Selmer Erickson Post 322 of the American Legion will install new officers Thursday night May 27 at 7 30 pm A codfish supper will follow. Selmer Amundson is re elected Post Commander and officers include Jim Bond Erich Herzog Ibrey Linders Jodie Amundson Chris Grimm J B Darden Installing officer is Louis Jordan of Austin Also attending are Howard Southard of Killeen and McAneily of McGregor Members and other veterans are invited to attend.
Clifton Independent Baptist Church cancels its fifth Sunday singing and hosts annual fellowship at Circle Baptist Church in Meridian on that date.
Oren Tookie Canuteson won first in a Clifton intelhair golf tournament with 31 players. E. E. Harvey took second. three Clifton men contest third in an 18 hole playoff. New officers were Jerry Sadler president Don Olson vice president Merle Belcher secretary treasurer.
Most Clifton businesses will close on Monday May 31 in observance of Memorial Day. The local Chamber of Commerce designates it as a traditional holiday. Banks Farmers State Bank Clifton and First Security State Bank Crawfills Gap will close. A few businesses serving travelers will stay open.
The Clifton Civic Improvement Society discusses a central topic for the June 2 meeting at City Hall ANS room. Mrs. Charles M. Isenhower will chair the 1971 dinner with all trimmings set for September 3 during the Central Texas Fair and Rodeo.
Lanes Chapel invites friends from distant places to join the annual homecoming at the Little White Church on June 6. Activities begin at 10 with singing and a devotional by Dudley Sowell, then a 11 o'clock business meeting, followed by noon lunch and an afternoon singing. Bring a food basket and help fill the long tables.
Clifton Band Parents Association to elect officers for the coming year at a meeting on Wednesday evening June 25 at 7 PM in the Band Hall. It will be the last meeting of the year and important business will be discussed. all band parents urged to attend.
