Farmers Home Administration designates Bosque County for emergency loans to farmers and ranchers harmed by drought and other adverse weather through June 30, 1972. Loans available to those with substantial losses. applications accepted at the FHA County Office in Meridian, Texas.
An editorial from Clifton urges residents to fund a thousand-strong Texas delegation to meet with representatives in Paris, Stockholm, and Moscow to press for humane treatment of American POWs in Indo China. It outlines three options, favors negotiations first, and notes a $600 cost per person with initial local pledges totaling $100 and calls for $1 to $5 contributions.
Odie Pederson named chairman of The Salvation Army finance campaign in Clifton Bosque County announced by Rev. Frank Horak. Pederson, Clifton native with a long business and public service career, returns to lead local drive and invites citizens to join the effort.
Turnersville plans a homecoming with events on Saturday May 29 and Sunday May 30. Claude Graves and the Turnersville Singing Group lead a Saturday night singing at the tabernacle. Sunday at 11 a.m. Rev. Guy Wilson of Clifton gives the Memorial Day devotional followed by visitation and basket lunch.
In Clifton District residents face higher taxes as district-wide evaluation rises from 8 million to 13 million, with a 26 percent assessed value new tax base. A reader friendly overview clarifies that taxes will jump from 22.50 to 39.00 on a 10 000 property, due to the higher evaluation rather than a pure rate hike. The Board of Equalization adjusts values and prepares notices for June 1 and June 3 1971 with public access at City Hall Clifton.
Clifton High School announced valedictorian Betty McDougal with a 94.47 average and salutatorian James Prescher at 94.04. Other top graduates include Beatrice Record 92.21 and Mary White 90.24. Graduation speakers include Rev Frank Horak for Baccalaureate May 30 at Bells Auditorium and Dr Herbert Reynolds Baylor University for the June 3 commencement.
Frank Horak of the Chitton youth baseball group calls on players fathers and volunteers to bring lawn mowers hoes and rakes for a Friday May 21 evening cleanup and a Saturday morning fence installation at the new ball park on the north side of the football field. The project totals 3200 with 1750 already raised from the Clifton Civic Improvement Society the Chamber of Commerce and the City leaving 1450 to be raised. Contributions can be made to Rev Horak Clinton Sinderud treasurer or Rev Flanagan.
The USDA announced a mail referendum June 7 to 18 on extending the wool and lamb promotion agreement with ASPC Inc. Voters may be producers with 12 months participation or 30 consecutive months since 1970. Two thirds of voters or volume must approve. deductions would fund advertising and promotion if approved.
Members of World War I Barracks and Auxiliary will meet in Hamilton Lesson Hall on Tuesday May 25 at 6 80 p m with a covered dish supper observed. A business meeting will follow the supper.
