Holmes denies stamp use in pickup purchase case
Travis County District Attorney K. O. Bob Smith declined comment on the Holmes investigation while Holmes contends the 94,000 in stamps accusations are part of a political move by Tom Creighton. Holmes says he bought a 1971 Chevrolet pickup with cash from Durant Chevrolet in Granbury and that no House stamps were involved. The private citizen complaint alleges stamps were used to pay for the truck and that the dealer still uses those stamps with 2 cents postage. J. V. Durant owns the dealership. Attorneys say no guilt issue rests with the dealer. Three witnesses are to testify next week before the Travis County grand jury.
