Braniff appoints first male flight attendants on domestic service

Clifton man Ken Holder 24 is among Braniff International's first four male hosts for domestic flights joining four others after a five week training. Holder, a Rice University graduate and pianist, says the position aids future management goals while Braniff notes the group will serve on U S and Mexico routes with hostess trainees.

CHS Choir Sets Formal Concert Tonight

Clifton High School Choir under Mrs Patsy Ruth Lancaster presents its final formal concert of the year at 7 30 p m in the new gymnasium. They will perform Tell it Like It Is a modern religious work with a first century message. No admission charge and the public is invited.

More Educational Aids Sought For Handicapped Youths

Clifton Elementary School Principal Richard Liardon and Clifton resident Mrs. Tom Browder hosted a meeting of the Band Parents. The Handicapped Advisory Committee will meet at 7 30 p m on Monday May 21 at Clifton High School band hall. Attendees included regional superintendents and special education directors from Region XII. Jack Ross of Region XII’s Educational Service Center discussed Bulletin 711 revisions from 1975 on state special education programs.

Wimberly Keeling Named In Clifton Salvation Army Drive

H J Wimberly named campaign chairman for Clifton Salvation Army Service Unit's 1200 dollar fund drive. J R Keeling named special gifts committee chair man. Drive starts Wednesday May 23 per Rev Frank Horak. Wimberly is a teacher and junior high girls basketball coach. Keeling is VP community development for Clifton Chamber of Commerce. Funds aid local welfare and disaster relief. The unit partners with state Salvation Army programs and serves as liaison to Dallas headquarters.

Clifton High School Class of 1973 Baccalaureate and Commencement

Clifton High School hosts baccalaureate on Sunday with Rev. Bryan W. Thornburg speaking at 8 p.m. in Bettis Auditorium and commencement on Wednesday with Judge Byron Mc Clellan as speaker. Valedictorian Janie Conrad and salutatorian Lazane Smith headline the senior honors. Final exams run Friday to Tuesday. No school May 23. books due May 24 with buses running and no luncheon. Commissioners Mull Elevator Plan for Meridan Courthouse

Bosque County officials led by County Judge Charles K Ward Jr continue studying installing a 10 passenger elevator in the Meridian courthouse. They inspected sites this week and will seek bids after details. The cost is not expected to exceed 20000 and may serve only first and second floors or third floor as well. They plan to obtain architectural drawings to reduce expenses and chose a shaft location with minimal building changes. The group also approved 500 for West Shore Fire Dept and will join a field trip with the Resource Conservation and Development project to Stephen ville and on to Comanche County.

Clifton ISD adopts kindergarten admissions plan

Clifton Independent School District trustees approved a proposed kindergarten policy pending test results and state legislative sessions. Eligibility follows Texas Education Agency standards with 70th percentile on McGraw-Hill language tests. no class may exceed 30. Forty three pupils tested. 25 needed for state funding. A decision on starting classes next fall will be made at the June 7 meeting after test outcomes and legislature adjournment.

Chief Warns of Rising Fatalities If Crash Rate Remains High

Clifton Chief of Police Omar Waller warned that the town will see fatalities this year if crash rates do not drop. He cited 4 crashes with 7 injuries from January to April, up from 2 injuries in 1972, and noted April 1978 had 12 crashes with 2 injuries compared with five crashes in April 1972 with no injuries. He urged motorists to drive more friendly.

Supt Appleby outlined a policy to establish guidelines for the program requiring pupils to be in class at least two hours and forty five minutes on school days Kindergarten attendance is not compulsory Trustees will obtain estimates for summer repairs at Clifton Elementary and Junior High School Owen Sparks named custodian at Clifton High School succeeding W C Brooks Sparks started last Monday Trustees vote to continue participation in the Regional Media Service Center from Waco Films and special education supplies are offered under the program
