Clifton High Students Sweep State Meet Honors at Austin

Clifton High School earned its first state first place medals in 25 years as Charlotte Miles won Class A Shorthand with 998 percent and dictation at 100 wpm, while Bernard Erickson took first in Class A shot put with 57 feet. Jerry Golden placed fifth in Read Writing, and Erickson earned a place on the North team for the coaching school in Houston.

Quota More Than Doubled in Bosque County Cancer Drive

Bosque County unit of the American Cancer Society reports total contributions of 2843.76 dollars surpassing its 1500 dollar goal. Crusade chairman Ed win Bekkeland announced at the May 6 meeting in Clifton City Hall with 77 members present. Dr C Raybourn and Mrs TN Foster led discussions on cancer progress and local fundraising results.

More than 275 Girl Scouts and leaders from Valley Mills Meridian Evant Flat West Hillsboro Crawford Mc Gregor Clifton gathered in Clifton's City Park on Saturday May 4 to share games learn new ones and enjoy lunch. Bosque County Historical Association seeks to mark Civil War graves of both Confederate and Union veterans. Committee chair Clinton E. Stewart asks residents to report unmarked graves to County Judge Jack Railsback or by mail. Nationally provided markers are free. local setup costs may apply.

Amos G. Elder son of Mr and Mrs P L Elder of Clifton has been elected superintendent of the Riesel Public School system He succeeds Ro L Craig who resigned to become superintendent of Hampshire Fannett schools in southeast Texas Elder is Clifton native a 1948 Clifton High School graduate and has degrees from North Texas State University and The University of Texas He taught in Stephen Ville Belton Valley Mills and Gatesville and served as principal at Valley Mills Elder and his wife Alla Lee Mann have five children Kathy Karen Ronnie Kerry and Kly.

Wheat Referendum Near for Farmers The Nationwide Vote

Floyd M. Key explains the May 21 wheat referendum with two possible programs. First option requires two thirds yes or more than one third no for a result. sets a 1.22 billion bushel marketing quota and 495 million acre allotment with 65 to 90 percent parity price support. Second option reduces most first option provisions, offering about 50 percent parity support and a 49.5 million acre allotment. Clifton cattle and grain prices from Wednesday auction

Prices posted Thursday by Clifton buyers show eggs at 28 cents per dozen for large, 20 cents for medium and B large, oats 80 cents per bushel, milling wheat 2.06, spring wheat 1.75, barley 98 cents, yellow corn 1.40. About 425 cattle offered, steers and yearlings 22.50 to 24, calves 22 to 25.50, canners 9 to 14.5, bulls 16 to 19.5, stocker steers 23 to 26, butcher cows 13 to 16, cows and calves 150 to 235, hogs 13.75 to 14.00.

Dr W T Holder announces Type III Oral Sabin polio vaccine will be available Sunday May 19 from noon to 3 30 or 4 00 PM at nine Bosque County sites including Clifton Meridian Valley Mills Iredell Crawfills Gap Koppers Morgan Walnut Springs and Mosheim. Clifton PTA Set to Host Style Show and Officer Election

Clifton Public Schools homemaking classes present a year long garment show at a 3:00 PM PTA meeting on May 15. Mrs. M B Jameson leads the program with past Interscholastic League contestants showcased earlier. New PTA officers were elected including Mrs Joe Little as president and Mrs J Kincheloe as reporter. The Bettis Auditorium back curtain was installed with PTA funding of 865 dollars and festival proceeds of about 380 dollars aimed at needy school projects. Parents and teachers are urged to attend the final meeting of the school year.

Rev Rolf's Sister Dies In Minnesota

Miss Agnes Rolf aged 82 of St Paul Minnesota died about 6 p m Saturday May 4. She was sister of Reverend W F Rolf of Clifton. Reverend Rolf left Fort Worth by train last Sunday night for St Paul to attend funeral services held Tuesday this week. He plans to return to Clifton Friday.

Planned A Co Courthouse Unveiling in Bosque County

Historical Survey Committee met at Meridian on May 4 to outline future projects. Friday May 17 at 1 00 P M a ceremonial unveiling of the Bosque County courthouse medallion plaque will occur with a brief program and student participation from Meridian Public Schools. The Texas Historical Foundation released a directory noting Clifton Bosque County hosts one museum among 70 Texan towns with multiple museums in some cities.
