She previously taught in Clifton and Hillsboro, held district and state leadership roles, served on hospital and church committees, and earned a master’s in Home Economics Education. She has been active in national and state professional groups and is listed in Who’s Who in American Education.

Arnold Manske Jr Named To Fraternity At UT Galveston

Arnold Manske Jr a UT Medical School Galveston junior was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha honorary medical fraternity joining two other juniors. He is son of Dr and Mrs Arnold Manske of Waco and nephew of local residents Mrs W B Oswald and Mrs Helen C Aars. He scored the top grade on this year state medical exam. W Northrup of Valley Mills was admitted to Clifton hospital on April 29.

Couple Welcomes Son Kyle Wade La tham

Mr and Mrs Johnny Ray La tham of Route 1 Jonesboro announce the birth of their son Kyle Wade at Clifton hospital on April 24 1963. He weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces at birth.

Highway 6 North To Be Reworked In 1963 Reconstruction

Texas highway officials plan a 10.27 mile rebuild of Highway 6 from Clifton to Meridian with a 70 mph design. Work will start soon in Austin and extend from June into early 1964, including a wider 46 foot paved road and extended culverts while traffic stays through the site. No plans exist yet for Clifton to Valley Mills.

Bernard Erickson Signs With ACC

Bernard Erickson a 6 foot 215 pound senior from Central Texas signed a preenrollment football scholarship with Abilene Christian College. He will play football and compete in track at ACC this fall. Gary Swenson also signed a letter of intent with Texas Lutheran College for a football scholarship. Dickie Larson has a TLC offer but has not chosen a school.

Baylor Senior Lynda Ashcraft Nominated 1963 May Queen

Baylor University student Lynda Lee Ashcraft of Clifton nominated by the Atheneans as 1963 May Queen. She is an office administration major with economics minor and Baylor Beauty, and has been named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Also notes local resident Mrs Doyle Hulme as a hospital patient since April 30.

George Fossett Sr dies after long Clifton barber life

George L Fossett Sr 71 of 215 North Avenue F Clifton died about 7 10 pm Monday April 29 after a year of declining health and four weeks in home care. He was a Meridian native, barber since 1915, married Ida Ottersen in 1918, father of four sons and a devout church member. Funeral services were May 1 at First Baptist Clifton with interment in Clifton Cemetery.

Dr Wybourne To Speak At Bosque County Unit Meeting

Dr RC Wybourn of Waco will be guest speaker at the Bosque County Unit of the American Cancer Society first annual meeting in Clifton City Hall at 7 30 Monday night May 6. Registration in lobby before the hour. Invitations mailed to over 300 volunteers. Reports from five committees and two special committees on the unit's first year. Dr Wybourn is a member of Texas Division committees and acquainted with Bosque County residents. He trained at Indiana University and University of Michigan, with radiology residency in Galveston and practice in Waco since 1954.

Mrs P O Dahl Dies In Clifton Hospital

Funeral services were held for Mrs Adelia Precilla Pierson Dahl 76 at Trinity Lutheran Church Clifton with Rev. Erwin Knitt officiating. The Clifton resident died April 28 from heart disease after prior heart attack April 8. Interment was at Our Savior’s Lutheran Norse Cemetery.

Norse Pastor Accepts New Call

Reverend Joel E. Nelson, pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Norse, has accepted a Visitation pastor position at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown SD. The Nelsons will move in August, plan retirement near Clifton, and will continue chaplaincy and teaching roles. The article notes their Texan roots and nine years in Norse.

Clifton High Band Wins Sweepstakes Trophy at Marlin Contest

Clifton High School Concert Band earned the Sweepstakes Trophy for first division ratings in marching concert playing and sight-reading during the 1962 1963 year at the UIL Region III C contest in Marlin. Band members Stephen Bester and Jeff Cox conducted pieces as fifty one students performed Honors Day Overature and other selections.

Clifton High School juniors and seniors, joined by faculty, enjoyed the 1963 Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom on April 25. The Moon River motif featured moonlit decor, a bridge centerpiece, and tables adorned with miniature trees. Entertainment included The Moon Gazers and Ronnie Rawls of Baylor University.

Market Report from Chifton Auction Elevates Cattle and Grain Prices

Thursday figures show cattle offerings near 400 head with steady to weak stocker and feeder values and butcher cows $1 lower. Good to choice steers $22.50 to $24, calves $22 to $25.50, bulls $16 to $19.50. Cows and calves $150 to $235. Hog tops $13.50 to $13.70. Grain includes oats 80c per bushel, milling wheat $2.06, spring wheat $1.75, barley $1.98, yellow corn $1.40. Eggs quoted per dozen vary by size from 14c to 23c.
