Rattlesnake Raid Enjoyed By Group On Neils Creek

A group of Norse citizens hunted a rattlesnake den at the Bert Alland farm on Neils Creek Bee Rock Sunday afternoon March 20. They killed 34 snakes ranging from babies to over five feet, pulling many out with hooks and using gas for the remainder. Instigators included Milford Murphree C Pernell Aars Joseph Solberg Glenn Ringness with several helpers. Betty and Glenn Murphree filmed the hunt while local visitors joined at the Ulland home after.

Wayne Dale Bean Shot Injured At Home

Wayne Dale Bean son of Mr and Mrs Simon Bean was shot in the shoulder with a 22 gun while alone at home He placed the unloaded gun on the bed and it discharged when he reached for something The bullet barely missed arteries and lodged under the shoulder skin It was removed and he returned home Tuesday after treatment

Mrs. S M Ringness Visits Sister in Dallas

Mrs. S M Ringness spent Thursday and Friday in Dallas visiting her sister Mrs D C Matthews. Last week Mrs Minor A Hurst of Route 1 Moody Texas sent a year’s Record subscription as a birthday gift to her and her husband with a note praising Clifton and their friends there. The Hursts lived at Norse for years before moving to Moody.

Sheep and Goat Field Day at Rowland Ranch April 5

Bosque County hosts a Sheep and Goat Field Day on April 5 at Rowland Ranch 40 miles southeast of Morgan on Farm Road 927. The event features selection demos for sheep and goats, wool preparation, parasite control talks, and a free barbecue dinner. James Gray will lead demonstrations on sheep and goat selection and mohair production.

Parents Of Peewees Plan March 29 Meeting

Clifton Peewees parents will meet at 7 30 PM Tuesday March 29 at City Hall to discuss the upcoming baseball season. Directors officers and coaches had previously met at Dr and Mrs S L Witcher home where the plan was formed. Elmer J Colwick Dies March 20 in Dickinson Area

Elmer J Colwick aged 67 of Dickinson died Sunday night March 20 in Galveston County Hospital near Texas City after illness since September 1959. Born April 20 1892 in Norse near Clifton he worked for Texas Louisiana Power and later Amlico Oil Company in Texas City until retirement. Survived by wife two daughters Marie Register and Joy Holgrave a son Douglas Colwick four brothers two sisters and eight grandchildren. Funeral was March 22 at Dickinson Methodist Church with burial in Galveston County Memorial Cemetery.

Illinois Man Appointed Sales Manager at Wilson Building Materials

Don Kinghan of Evanston Illinois is named sales representative and manager of Wilson Building Materials Co Inc in Clifton. Mrs Jack Wilson remains president after her husband Jack Wilsons earlier death. Kinghan has a background with Southwest Forest Industries and Tahoe Timber Co and studied at Syracuse University. He and his wife have a two year old daughter Lisa Anne and reside at 1314 West 1th St. Kinghan comes from Portland Oregon and is expected to strengthen the firm. Jack King is reported to be recovering well from injuries after a lumber incident at Wilson Building Material Co.

Bosque County 4-H Winners Named for District Eliminations

Bosque County 4 H winners were named to represent the county at the District 8 Eliminations in Stephenville on April 9. Winners include Dairy Foods Individual Linda Avery and Electric Team Oscar Rohne and Charles Huse, Crawfills Gap, with multiple teams and individuals listed for junior division demonstrations. Mrs. Edling of Elgin Dies. Schulze Undergoes Surgery

Mrs O W Edling of Elgin, mother of Mrs Blanche Schumacher of Clifton, died suddenly Monday morning March 21. Funeral held March 23 at Lund Bethlehem Church near Elgin with burial in church cemetery. Mrs Adolph Schulze underwent surgery at Providence Hospital Waco on Thursday. she remained hospitalized the day before and hopes to return home soon.

City Council approves paving equipment purchase

The Clifton City Council voted to buy a used asphalt distributing machine with heating equipment for sealing and repairing streets. The $850 purchase aims to enable local crews to seal coat streets annually using nearby gravel and existing staff with minimal cost.

Earl Corpier Plans New Store Front in Clifton

Earl Corpier owner of Earl Corpier's Grocery and Market in Clifton plans to start construction in May on a lot across from the Post Office at West 5th Street and South Avenue EF. The 148 by 111 foot lot was purchased from Mrs Inez Larsen and Mrs E A Henry who will vacate by May 1. The new haydite block building will have brick veneer and year around air conditioning. trees have been removed in preparation.

Dunlop Family Visits Relatives in Evant and Austin

Mr and Mrs Calvin Dunlop and sons Jack and Joe visited Evant over Sunday to see Mrs Dunlops aunt and uncle Mr and Mrs J B Williams and their son-in-law Mr and Mrs Charles Faubion. Mrs Faubion is a cousin of Mrs Dunlop. Mr and Mrs Robert Kennedy of Austin stayed from Friday to Sunday with Mrs Kennedy's grandmother Mrs Harold Hill. Mrs Kennedy is former Margaret Ann Duncan and granddaughter of Mrs Jessie Duncan of this city.

Thursday price quotes from Clifton buyers show eggs 28 cents per dozen for No 1s and 22 cents for others with hens at 6 cents over 4 1/2 pounds. Milling wheat 1 90 per bushel feed wheat 1 70 oats 65 and 1 75 ewt barley 95 and corn 1 20. Cattle sale reports over 450 head with steers 24 to 26 1/2 calves 25 to 27 1/2 cows 13 to 19 and stocker stock calf values 24 to 31 with cows and calves 150 to 235. Hog top 16 20 lamb top 19.
