VA pension changes offset Social Security rise
VA reports that most beneficiaries will see higher total income as Social Security gains offset pension reductions. The average VA pension drops three to four cents per dollar of Social Security add, yet many receive about $19 more monthly. About 1 percent face income above pension limits, while others lose pensions due to other increases. The formula, in effect for a year, adjusts payments with changing income to prevent widespread loss. VA notes a 6.5 percent pension boost alongside the ongoing 1969 third increase.
