New Clifton high school opens after weather delays

After weeks of rain and mud delays, Clifton Independent School District begins classes at the new Clifton High School with a $300,000 facility. Supt. Kent Appleby said transfers were arranged for Monday and moving day was planned for Friday. The district had funded the project with $800,000 in bonds approved two years earlier and Sparks Construction Co. of Hamilton led bids from eleven firms.

City to wait for more low rent housing units

Clifton faces no new federally aided residential projects due to a national presidential freeze affecting all contracts not under the annual contributions agreement as of January 5. Riverside Park phase one to start after April 1

Mayor Charles M. Isenhower disclosed at a Clifton Lions Club luncheon that city workers will begin the first phase of Riverside Park improvements shortly after April 1 with federal funds covering half of the 85 000 cost. The total park project is 250 000 for three phases, with phase two and three awaiting federal approval. Benches, picnic sites, grills, fencing, and paving are planned, plus a trainee park maintenance role and potential summer recreational director.

Clinic Moves to New Location Monday

The Clifton Medical and Surgical Clinic relocates from 503 West Sid St to 201 South Ave adjacent to Goodall-Witcher Hospital. Open to receive patients at 8:30 a.m. Monday with hours 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon Sundays.

Allan B. Davis Seeks Clifton City Council Seat

Allan B. Davis, electrical superintendent for Community Public Service Co., runs for one of Clifton's two City Council seats in the April 7 election. Born in Lexington Kentucky he holds a BS in electrical engineering from New Mexico State University and is a registered PE in New Mexico and Texas. Davis has worked in aircraft industry in Seattle San Francisco and Los Angeles before joining CPS Pecos in 1965 and held posts in Silver City and Clifton. He is Lions Club Housing Authority Commissioner Bosque County Cancer Society administrative board member and First United Methodist Church member. Davis says his eight years of city work gives him the knowledge to meet Clifton's needs and that his engineering background will help.

Greenwade Announces Candidacy for City Council Seat

A. M. Greenwade of 606 West Hackberry seeks one of two City Council seats. A Bosque Hill native, he served as a World War I machine gunner in Europe, then 28 years in Bosque County law enforcement and as justice of the peace. He attends First Baptist Church of Clifton and is active in American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the World War I Barracks.

Drug Influenced Persons Drive Most Bosque Burglaries

Bosque County Sheriff John Baxter told the Lazy Daisy Home Demonstration Club that seventy five percent of burglaries in the county are committed by drug influenced individuals. He said drug problems affect every school and cited LSD as the most dangerous drug. Baxter called drug abuse a frightening disease affecting both body and mind and noted it is not limited to youth.

Clifton Police Chief warns on rising car crashes this year

Chief Homer Waller voiced deep concern over increasing automobile accidents in Clifton since January. Through February and into March crashes rose, with seven January incidents leaving three injured and seven in February causing two injuries. Two-month 1972 totals reached 14 crashes with four hurt, while two weeks noted four accidents with no injuries. Minor and extensive vehicle damages occurred at multiple intersections. A burglary at Central Texas Lumber Co. netted five or six dollars. =================================================================

One Killed and Eleven Injured On Bosque County Roads

A county report shows one death and eleven injuries on Bosque County rural highways in January and February. There were 23 accidents in the period, with the fatality occurring in February. Eight injuries occurred in January and three in February, contributing to a 1972 final tally of 183 crashes with four deaths and 97 injuries in the county.

Reservations Arriving for Clifton Chamber Banquet

The Clifton Chamber of Commerce invites reservations for its second annual banquet and membership meeting. The event, at 7 p.m. Saturday April 14, will be at the National Guard Armory with Dr. James Blakely of Wharton as speaker. Tickets, limited to 400, go on sale April 1 to members and then the public at the Chamber office Farmers State Bank and local drug stores.
