Clifton Cubettes Win First Track Meet in Clifton Jr High History

Clifton Jr high girls win the Comanche meet with 107 points marking the first track competition for the Clifton Cubettes. Pam Chapman led with 24 points, followed by Linda Erickson and Sis Ludwig with strong showings in field and sprint events. Team members include Janet Conrad, Debra Morrow, Shaun Grey, Linda Erickson, Sis Ludwig, and Vickie Harris. Next meet is April 7 at Robinson.

Meridian teen injured in truck overturn crash

A 16 year old Meridian youth, Kelley J. Jones, was injured when a 1970 truck he was driving left the road and overturned Sunday morning. He was taken to a local hospital by private conveyance for treatment.

Band Students Spring Concert March 29 at Bettis Auditorium

The fifth sixth and seventh grade bands perform an annual one hour concert at 7 30 p m in Bettis Auditorium directed by Mel Cowan. Tickets are sold in advance and at the door. Preschool children admitted free. Band students and families attend. Indian Hospital visit to follow the accident.

Texas motorists face Saturday deadline to register 1973 cars as April 1 falls on Sunday. Robert Townsley of the Texas Highway Department warns of long lines if many owners delay. Offices in Meridian open 8 to 12 and 1 to 5 weekdays, with Saturday hours 8 to 12 for in person registration.

School Trustees To Meet Thursday In Clifton High

Clifton Independent School District trustees plan their first meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday March 29 in Clifton High School. They may meet in the tax office at 1102 North Ave N or in the superintendent Kent Appleby’s office. The tax office moved recently from the Clifton Record building at 314 West St. Lundberg Tax Service became the new tenant at the Record building after moving from the Farm Bureau building on West 6th St.

Davis elected head of Goodall Witcher Hospital Auxiliary

Mrs. Allan B. Davis has been elected president of the Goodall Witcher Hospital Auxiliary. Other officers chosen include President-elect Mrs. F E Harris Vice President Mrs. Jimmy Burch Recording Secretary Mrs. Mel Cowan Corresponding Secretary Mrs. Frank Smith Treasurer Mrs. Edwin Conrad and Historian Miss Janice Collins. Installations will occur at the Annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday April 17 in the hospital cafeteria. Awards for hours of service will be presented. Draperies for the cafeteria and upstairs hall are planned and the Auxiliary will provide them as soon as possible.

Children Praise Chief For Aiding In Locating Stolen Items

Clifton youngsters found no items taken in a recent break in and were praised by Police Chief Homer Waller for notifying discoveries. Items reported stolen include a tape deck and tapes from a locked car at a football field and a cutting torch with hose from a city sewer plant site.

Local Tracksters Prep for Midway Meet

Clifton Cubs cindermen train this week for the Midway meet with preliminary events set Saturday afternoon and finals Saturday night. Coach Aubrey Roberts plans to take a group to Comanche Friday for an earlier meet before joining the full squad at Midway. A Hillsboro meet was canceled by rain last weekend.
