Ruthy Hoel was crowned Football Sweetheart at Clifton High School in Bettis Auditorium on March 12. The senior, daughter of Calvert and Ruth Hoel, was escorted by Larry Pullin, with CHS football players as honor guard and a full royal court including duchesses from elementary through high school.

Meridian Man Henry Lee Dies After Car Crash
Funeral services were held for Henry Dave Lee 74 of Meridian who died from injuries suffered in a Sunday car wreck. Interment was in Meridian Cemetery. Survivors include his wife a son a daughter six grandchildren and a great grandchild. Also injured were Mr and Mrs Andy Bills of Stephenville, parents of Mrs Tweedle of Clifton, hospitalised in Stephenville. Mrs Lawrence Ringness remains hospitalized after a severe fall at Clifton Public Schools where she teaches.

At a March 12 meeting at the National Guard Armory Clifton joins Valley Mills Turnersville Cranfills Gap and other towns in forming the Square League for 13 14 and 15 year olds. Wallace Burns is president. Bob Arirett vice president. Emory Stewart secretary treasurer. Senior division teams from Clifton Valley Mills Meridian also participate with plans to meet after Gatesville and Hamilton teams decide. All TTBA games run from late May to July 24.

Mrs. H Powell Dies at 80 in Clifton
Mrs. Mary Miranda Taylor Powell, aged 80 years 7 months and 15 days, of 311 South Avenue F Clifton, died March 16 at her home likely from a heart attack. She was born August 1, 1883 in Pike County Alabama and married Humphrey Powell in 1902. Surviving: three sons M C Powell Charlie Powell Leo Powell and daughter Mrs W C Abel. Funeral details not included.

The 1963 audit by A C Upleger & Co. reports Clifton’s general fund balance at September 30, 1963, of 19 339.53, up from 11 138.17 the prior year, with total receipts of 125 760.48 and expenditures of 76 726.97. Bonds rose to 251 000.00, while the city funds indicate adequate coverage for upcoming debt payments. Delinquent taxes decreased to 7 686.18, with 3 886.24 paid during the year.

Beauty Pageant Set April 3 4 With Nearly 500 In Prizes
The 12th annual Lake Whitney Beauty Pageant will run April 3 and 4 at Bettis Auditorium Clifton. Red Cross Drive Starts in Clifton March 23
Mrs. W. M. Kuykendall announces the 1964 Clifton Red Cross drive will run from Monday March 23 through Tuesday March 31. Volunteers will canvass entire Clifton, with envelopes left if no one is home. Donations support disaster aid, servicemen and families, veterans benefits, free first aid and water safety training, nursing services, blood programs, youth service, and international relief through the American Red Cross.
