Clifton in Denton suffered a 52 to 34 defeat to Millsap in the Texas Interscholastic League Region II first round. Christie led Clifton with 26 points while Henderson topped Millsap with 29. Baird posted a 22 5 record to win Class A, and Millsap finished 31 6 for the season.

Fire Damages Two-Story House on North Avenue F
A Sunday night blaze damaged the attic and roof of the two story house at 204 North Avenue F Clifton owned by Mrs. Joe Kral Jr. and occupied by Mrs. Helen Sewell and her five children. Firemen reported the roof badly damaged and the bottom floor intact aside from firefighting water. The Sewell family now lives in a Jesse Hay apartment while furniture was moved downstairs.

Car Goes Into Turkey Creek Near Clifton
Doyle Roberts of Crawfills Gap lost his 1955 Ford along Highway 219 west of Clifton around 12:30 Sunday morning and the vehicle ended in Turkey Creek. Patrolman Harvey Lane said Roberts was uninjured though the car was badly damaged.

Clifton High track team finished fourth among over 30 Class A and B schools in Palestine last Saturday. Ronny Thomas and Tommy Traylor each took second in their events, with Clifton scoring 351.3 points. The Cubs also earned points in relays and jumps as plans for the triangle meet with Hillsboro and Valley Mills moved to March 17.

Clifton High School will send a large group to the Region II Solo and Ensemble Contest at Baylor University in Waco Saturday. Band instructor Glen Judah says they depart Clifton at 7:30 AM with events starting at 8:30 AM, judged by specialists. Participants include multiple soloists on flute, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, cornet, trombone, piano and vocal ensembles and quartets.

Mrs. Maggie Butts aged 83 of Burnet died around 7 50 p m Tuesday night March 10 in Clifton hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted Thursday March 12 at Florence Church of Christ by Isaac Traylor with interment in Florence Cemetery. Clifton Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
