Clifton Merchants Launch Spring Opening Days in Clifton
Clifton merchants start four day Spring Opening Days from March 15 to 18 with many stores featuring new seasonal merchandise and bargains on last winter stock. Shoppers can register for free gifts on Saturday without purchases and no winner need be present. The grand opening parade of drawings and gifts begins downtown Saturday at 2 p.m. The Record booths in Bosque County publish early to accompany the event.

Barefoot Burglar Leaves Toe and Heel Prints in Mercantile Break-In
A barefoot thief broke into The Mercantile Co. store late Saturday night or Sunday morning, leaving distinct toe and heel prints after painting the floor earlier. He stole about $15 from a cash drawer and a jar of half dollars, while the safe and stamps remained untouched. Sheriff A O Tiny Carr notes tracks suggest a man of size up to 11 inches in foot length and possible rubber overshoes. The burglar also entered Clifton Food Market next door and used a butcher’s fork on the connecting door. No reports of missing items from the grocery store by Sunday afternoon.
