Whitney to host 1968 Lake Whitney Beauty Pageant

The Lake Whitney Chamber of Commerce and Lake Whitney Association will co sponsor the 1968 pageant with top bid from Association directors. The event is planned for late April with date and site to be announced. A plaque will be awarded to the sponsor of the winning contestant in both junior and senior divisions. Funds will support a Hillsboro Whitney area sign on US 135 to guide visitors during HemisFair traffic.

CHS Band Parents to Meet Monday Evening

Clifton High School band parents association schedules a meeting Monday March 18 at 7 30 p m in the CHS Band Hall announced this week.

Clifton approves housing ordinances and schedules mayoral ballot

City aldermen passed several new housing and building ordinances aiming to qualify Clifton for a future federally financed project. The April 6 municipal election ballot will include candidates Edward B Bryn Clifford T Dyer Jim B Smith and Jean L Pierson with Bryn drawing the first spot. The council also made the alley between Sormrudes Thriftee and James Grocery a one way southbound. The city will lease grounds to the Central Texas Fair Association for 25 years with a 25 year option and receive half the rent from the Clifton Livestock Commission Co amounting to about 30 dollars per month.

Vietnam Veteran Edward Frazier Dies of Wounds

Edward Lee Frazier 19 died in Tachikawa Japan hospital after being wounded Feb 12 in Vietnam. His body flown to Pilot Point Texas with burial at Mt. Carmel Wolf City in a military funeral. Survivors: father Earl Frazier and wife, twin sister Edna Marie, brother Larry, half sister Cindy, mother Cecil Freeman Amber of Hobbs NM, grandmothers Pearl Frazier Denton and Ruby Freeman Hobbs, great grandmother Allen Denton.

World Day of Prayer Observed Across Two Services

Ninety guests attended two World Day of Prayer meetings held at Meridian Methodist Church and Zion United Church of Christ in Womack. The Meridian service featured Miss Veda Benson leading, with offerings totaling $33.30, and sermons on bearing one another’s burdens. Six denominations were represented and a social hour followed.

National Girl Scout and Brownie Week in Clifton ends with a covered dish supper at the Fellowship Hall of the First Methodist Church. Girls will receive charms earned in the latest cookie sale. Guest speaker will be Robert Rachirg. The week began with a joint church service.

Dinner-Dance to Honor Clifton High School Students

The Lions Club hosts a March 30 dinner-dance at the National Guard Armory to honor Clifton High School students including 7th and 8th graders in the band. Special guests are the Clifton State Finalist Football team Pep Squad and CHS Band faculty. Funds come from Lions Jaycees and local businesses. Curtis Holland is welcomed as a new Grace Memorial Baptist Church pastor and is the 440th member of the Clifton Lions Club.
