Twelve Clifton band students earn first, second and third place awards at the Region 8 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest in Waco Hall Baylor University on March 16. Harvey Zimmerman advances to the State Solo Contest in Austin. several musicians win across Class I II III in trumpets flutes trombone sax and ensembles with Lynn Knochs Janie Conrad Marsha Anz Lazane Smith first in Class I.

Names Drawn For May Democratic Primary Ballot

Albert Hastings reports the election committee met in the Meridian courthouse to place candidate names on the May 4 Democratic Primary ballot. The ballot includes candidates for lieutenant governor comptroller and other offices, plus three referendum propositions on liquor by the drink horse racing with pari mutuel wagering and the Texas Dairy Commission.

World Championship Nail Driving Contest at Lufkin High

The Ink Dropper recalls a unique World Championship Nail Driving Contest held at Lufkin High School stadium. Advance publicity drew participants from several states and a sizeable crowd to watch skilled workmanship in an unusual sport.

Jaycee-Ettes Install Officers in Waco Dinner

The Clifton Jaycee-Ettes held their installation dinner at Surf and Sirloin in Waco Monday night. Outgoing President Mrs. James Corpier installed officers for 1968 69: Mrs. Frank Smith president, Mrs. Sam Logan vice president, Mrs. B. W. Massingale secretary, and Mrs. Pat Patterson treasurer. Attendees included Mrs. T. F. Crawford, Mrs. Fred Ludwig, Mrs. David Tyssen, Mrs. Clyde Seljos, and past president Mrs. Frank Cunningham, now living in Waco. The group presented Mrs. Corpier a gift for her service as president.

Lake Whitney Pageant entries lag Clifton residents

Whitney and Cleburne each fielded five entrants for the 16th Annual Lake Whitney Beauty Pageant. Denise King, a Whitney High freshman, leads junior contestants with sponsor Sen set Lodge. Pamela Jones, an 18-year-old Cleburne senior, leads senior entrants with sponsor Dipsons Discount Center. Diane King and Pamala Roberts also compete in the junior group, all Whitney residents. The King sisters live near Cedar Creek. Pam Roberts near Towns Creek. A Whitney vs Hillsboro sponsor contest is noted.

Clifton Cub trackmen place third at Valley Mills Meet

Clifton High School tumblers scored 44 points to finish third among 51 teams at the Valley Mills Track Meet. Wayne Prescher led with a near win in the Open 440, Glen Haywood took pole vault third, and the 440 Relay plus Mile Relay placed. Clifton Jaycees Schedule Busy Coming Week Events

Clifton Jaycees outline their upcoming events with regular meetings on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at City Hall and mixed group bowling on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays at Lake Air Lanes. Also listed are an officer election night on March 18 and an Open Volleyball Tournament April 18 to 20 followed by a Donkey Basketball game on May 4 with details to come.

25 Chairmen Named For Cancer Crusade

Mrs. T. N. Foster announces 25 chairmen for as many Bosque County neighborhoods to lead this year’s Cancer Crusade. A Bosque County unit meeting is set for Tuesday night March 26 at 7 30 p m at Clifton Methodist Church. Crusade kits and instructions will be distributed to volunteers.

Girl Scouts and Brownies Awarded For Cookie Sales

Clifton hosted a covered dish supper at First Methodist Fellowship Hall honoring Girl Scouts and Brownies for selling 1,408 boxes of cookies. Charlene Boswold led with 120 boxes earning $10 toward her Camp fee. nine others sold 72 boxes each and chose a canoe charm or $5 camp credit.
