Clifton Cubs Achieve Fifth in Palestine Relays

Clifton Cubs place fifth in the Class B relay meet at Palestine with 39 points led by Tommy Traylor and teammates. Palestine High School and other rivals competed. Clifton posted scorers in 60 and 120 yard events, pole vault, and discus as coach Asbrey Roberts took 13 athletes to the meet.

Lows Lee Thiele of Clifton 4H Club Route 2 traveled with his father Louis GG Thiele to the Houston Fat Stock Show and Rodeo last Saturday. Louis Lee entered the dairy scramble contest and said he didn’t get the call but it was a great experience.

Clifton High Band To Present Concert At PTA Meeting

Clifton High Band will perform at a PTA meeting in the Behoe Auditorium with 75 students including a flute trio and trombone solo. The program features La Mascareda Fantasy for Band Parade and Vive le Mexico third movement, plus a cornet solo and other selections.

Band Students Set for Solo and Ensemble Contest in Waco

Clifton junior high and high school bands with fifty four entries travel Saturday to Baylor University’s Waco Hall for the University Interecholastic League Region Solo and Ensemble Contest. They depart around 12 30 and perform around 2 00, returning about 5 36. Clifton FFA members judge at Houston Fat Stock Show

Clifton High School senior Jerry Hill and the Clifton FFA dairy judging team, including Lloyd Hampe Gary Don Holt and Buster Felan, competed at the Houston Fat Stock Show with Hill placing 22nd in Hereford heifer judging. Teacher Gerald Peacock supervised multiple trips to Houston and planned more practice for seven freshmen before College Station events.

Clifton Girls Fall Hard in Regional Semi Final

Clifton High School girls basketball suffered a decisive 59 to 17 loss to Baird in the Class A Region 1 tournament semi final at North Texas State University gym in Denton. Despite the setback, the 1965 team remains noted for district and bi district titles, echoing the 1964 champions. Millsap beat Fannindale 40 to 39 in the other semi final.

On Sunday February 28 the Clifton 4H Club met in the chapel at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home and sang religious songs and read readings. City of Clifton audits show General Fund balance dropped from 19339.53 on Oct 1, 1963 to 12971.20 on Sep 30, 1964. Receipts totaled 88960.07 while disbursements reached 95328.40, creating a $6368.33 deficit for the year.

Teachers FHA Mothers To Play Basketball Game

Clifton High School women teachers will play the Future Homemakers of America mothers in a benefit game at the local gym. Aubrey Roberts coaches the teachers with Dayton Whitehurst guiding the FHA mothers. Local men will cheerlead and high school boys will lead cheers for the mothers.
