Heart Sunday volunteers from Clifton conducted a door to door collection for the Texas Heart Association. By Tuesday this week the total reported contributions reached 358.57. spokesperson Mrs O B Pierson praised the Business and Professional Women's Guild for its canvassing effort and urged missed donors to send gifts using the envelopes left at homes.

Ray Bryn Undergoes Brain Surgery in Midland
RAY BRYN of Midland underwent brain surgery at Midland Memorial Hospital on Thursday February 25 to remove a brain tumor. He had a prior operation for the same reason last July. Relatives Edward Bryn and Mrs John Bryn accompanied him. Edward returned to Clifton while his mother stayed on with Ray and his family in Midland.

Clifton PTA Elects Officers For Coming Year
Clifton PTA held a meeting on Monday night February 22 electing officers for the next year. Oris EK Pierson was named president with Mrs Paul Barnett as 1st vice president and Mrs Werdtell Burden and Mrs Edward Broward as vice presidents. Mrs Gien Judah was chosen secretary and Mrs Alton Aara treasurer. Retiring officers include Mrs Orlette Watson president and Mr Erwin Ho Knitt 1st vice president. A motion formed a committee to decide whether to adopt a resolution or amendment to the constitution about meeting procedures and frequency for the coming year, with Mrs Watson appointing Mr Pierson, Mrs Barnett, and Mr Ortia Tyler to serve.

Former Clifton Resident Joe Shirley Dies in Benbrook Trailer Fire
Clifton friends mourn the death of Joe Shirley 54 years old in a Benbrook Texas trailer house fire Sunday night February 28. Shirley found dead inside the 8612 Highway 377 trailer with his dog. Fire Chief Duncan said cause undetermined. Shirley, son of John Morris Shirley and Ida Johnson Shirley, was born in Clifton and had lived there several times.

Approximately 90 Clifton Chapter members fathers and guests attended the FFA Father and Son Banquet in the high school gym Tuesday. John L. Merrill, Texas Christian University Ranch Training Director, spoke urging students to plan careers and continue education while noting agriculture’s broad reach. Local chaplain Leo Young gave the invocation before a fried chicken dinner.

A city census of Clifton by over 120 church members from seven churches finds about 10 percent of families not belonging to any local church. The February 21 census and February 28 tabulation at Grace Memorial Baptist Church list 30 percent Lutheran, 194 Baptist, 175 Methodist, and 925 percent men, with partial results from Cumberland Presbyterian and Shiloh Baptist.

Clifton High School girls basketball, while district 13 A champions, defeated Cedar Hill 43 to 38 in a Hillsboro bi district game.
