The editor reflects on talking with many residents about next Tuesday's bond election. Aims to counter apathy by urging informed voting and civic engagement while noting controversy and disagreement as normal in a democracy. (See DROP OF INK, Page 6-A).
Bosque Memorial Museum ends winter closure and resumes Sunday hours 2 to 5 pm with Mrs. Jack Kirton as host. New board of directors to be led by Odie Pederson includes Gene Aars and Ted B Evans, with officers. Daniel Traverso, State Museum Consultant, praised the museum and offered guidance.
Clifton residents 18 or older and registered will vote next Tuesday March 14 on two bond propositions to finance a new municipal complex and sewer plant. A second ballot will choose site for a new city hall community center library with two options. Polls open 8 am to 7 pm with absentee voting ended March 9.
Clifton Mayor Charles Isenhower spoke to the Lions Club detailing city acquisitions including a new garbage disposal area a water well and paving plans for about 80 blocks. He noted sewer plant needs and outlined bond figures aiming to fund a larger sewer extension and city hall community center with federal matching support.
As the candidate filing deadline passed for the April 1 city and school district elections, many races drew ample filings and will be contested. Ballots were set and the list includes Clifton City Council hopefuls Bill Painter Pat Patterson Doyle Crews W C Ledbetter B L Brewer.
At a March 1 luncheon in City Hall dining room Clifton Civic Improvement Society voted nearly unanimously to back the March 14 bond issue for a new city hall and community center. The executive board urged the society to declare FOR the bond and join Lions Club luncheon duties with Immanuel Lutheran Church. Treasurer Mrs Goodall reported year’s receipts totaling 1 "78 00" in dues and donations to Nellie Pederson Civic Library plus 25 00 from Joe Cowan and 524 88 and 625 90 from Lions Club luncheons and Central Texas Fair service.
March 9 last day for absentee voting for March 14 bond election in Clifton City Hall 9 am to 5 pm. March 14 bond election for city hall center sewer and site referendum 7 pm at City Hall. March 13 absentee voting opens for city council and school trustees. April 1 polling 8 am to 7 pm Clifton City Hall hosts city and school district voting. May 2 last day absentee for May 6 primaries.
