Clifton Cubs Prepare for Palestine Track Meet Start of season

Clifton High's track team opens the season at Palestine on Saturday March 2 at Anderson County. Coach Aubrey Roberts fields about 25 sprinters and distance runners with five lettermen and strong mile and sprint relay groups. The squad plans to enter many events and targets a district title, with meets listed through May 4 and post season events in Weep and Austin.

Baseball Program Meeting Scheduled

Towns with teams and leagues in the Texas Teen Age Baseball program plan a meeting Friday March 1 at 7 30 PM at the National Guard Armory in Clifton. The meeting will discuss summer leagues with Clifton fielding Peewees freshmen sophomores and hi juniors and inviting Hamilton Merahian Valley Mills Turnersville and Crawfills Gap to participate.

Personals notes visitors and patients in Clifton area. Mrs Douglas Wendt of Del Rio visited Mrs Grimland over the weekend. Mrs B F Driver of Clifton remained in the local hospital since February 21. Mr and Mrs Wylie Moffitt near Meridian are hospital patients in Clifton. Mrs Moffitt became ill February 25 and Mr Moffitt had surgery February 27. Valjean Polk, stationed in Tokyo, arrived in Dallas and will visit Clifton before reporting to Fort Ord California.

Clifton Stage Band Wins Class A at State Festival

Clifton High School Stage Band directed by Bill D Brown captured the Class A first place trophy at the 12th annual State Stage Band Festival held across Brownwood venues on February 22 and 23. Forty bands from 36 state high schools competed with Clifton earning top honors amid a strong field.

Mark Edward Norton of Kop pers became a medical patient in Clifton hospital this week. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett H. Schow visited relatives last Sunday at Parker and with several Clifton residents at Covington. The ladies are all sisters.

Rites set for James William Cooper in Clifton

James William Cooper 37 of Austin died February 24 at Breckenridge Hospital after a four year battle with illness stemming from a leg fracture. He was born November 7 1925 in Clifton and owned the S Livestock Company in Austin. survived by his wife and parents, a sister, two nephews, and several aunts and uncles. Funeral February 26 at the First Presbyterian Church in Clifton with interment in Clifton Cemetery.

Knoxs Move to Clifton Join Hometown Paper Subscriber Rush

George A Knox and wife Mrs. Knox moved to Clifton after retiring from a Houston machinist job of 28 years. The couple now reside at 303 South Avenue P in a home bought from Miss Mildred Hogster, after previously living in Bryan where he briefly worked post retirement. Clifton welcomes the Knox family.

Medallion Plaque Unveiling at Bosque County Historic Site

The Bosque County Historical Survey Committee will unveil a Medallion Plaque at the Oscar Omenson residence on Saturday March 2 at 10:00 AM. The house, once known as Norway Mills, sits about ten miles southwest of Clifton on FM Road 182. County Judge Jack Raushback and Clinton Stewart of Meridian lead the program. public attendance is invited.

Bosque County Voter Eligibility By Poll Tax Boxes

Clifton leads Bosque County 1963 eligible voters with 418 paying 1962 poll tax, Valley Mills 326, Meridian 280. County total paying poll tax 1,832 vs 2,489 last year. 25 exemptions issued. over 60 age group exceeds poll tax payers with an estimated 2,200 residents over 60. The voting box tallies follow.

Weekly Free Movies Start Next Tuesday at Cliftex

A town notice says free family films will run every Tuesday and Wednesday night in March and April at the Cliftex Theatre. Tickets are available from 27 local firms listed in the page eight advertisement, excluding the Cliftex itself. A short on local merchants will accompany each show to promote home-town services. Cub Scouts Honor Awards At Blue and Gold Banquet

About 120 Cub Scouts, parents, and volunteers gathered February 22 at the National Guard Armory in Clifton for the Blue and Gold Banquet. Guests heard how scouting began, saw awards announced for many Cub Scouts, and enjoyed a banquet meal with entertainment by magician Ben Gibson from Waco.

Clifton residents note John Standefer seeks another term on the Hillsboro Independent School District board of trustees. Two Hillsboro Junior College regents are drawn from the Hillsboro School Board and Standefer is currently one. Sportsman Club Opposes Merger Vote in Meridian

The Bosque County Sportsman Club voted at its February 21 meeting in Meridian High School cafeteria to notify Senator J. P. Ward and Representative J. E. Ward that it opposed merging the Texas Fish and Game Commission with the State Parks Board. Members approved a $100 contribution to the Screwworm eradication fund drive, having already donated $50, and the board includes Dr. W. F. Key T. H. Changes Affects Local Guard Unit Reorganization

The National Guard unit in Bosque County moves under the Army ROAD Concept. Company C, 2nd Battle Group, 143rd Infantry forms weapons and first rifle platoons in Clifton and joins Company A in 3rd Battalion 143d Infantry with half stationed in Clifton and half in Waco under Captain Darwin H. Miller. Clifton retains personnel. Clifton platoons are led by 1st Lt. Pierson and 1st Lt. Weir Jr. with 3rd Battalion HQ in Waco. Captain Railsback becomes S-1, 1st Lt. Conrad liaison officer.
