Buchanan Funeral Held At Brenham
Funeral services for James P. Buchanan, Democratic leader and chairman of the Money Appropriations Committee, were held in Brenham Texas. The procession included local and national officials, veterans groups, and community members. The Rev H C Wells delivered the tribute as Buchanan’s body was laid to rest at Prairie Len Cemetery after a service at Simank Funeral Chapel. He was remembered for convictions and loyalty and for his public service and farming background.

Federal Feed and Crop Loan applications are being received for emergency crop and feed loans for 1937. Loans are limited to the farmer’s immediate cash needs for crops or livestock feed, not exceeding 400 dollars, and only to farmers unable to obtain credit elsewhere. Security may be waived for inter ested parties in the crops and livestock involved, with repayment through the Governor of the Farm Credit Administration. Checks will be issued by the Regional Emergency Crop and Food Loan Office at Dallas, Texas.

An Austin report by the Department of Public Safety shows 1,885 Texans killed in automobile accidents in 1936, including 194 children. Of the dead, 48% were passengers, 20% drivers, 22% pedestrians. 46% occurred in cities, 64% in rural areas. 39% in daylight, 61% at night. Major causes: 26% speeding, 21% pedestrian impact, 12% careless driving, 6% signal failures, 4% weather, 4% mechanical failure, 2% drunken driving, 1% road conditions. Children’s deaths: 6% pedestrians, 17% motor vehicle crashes, 1% bicycles, 10% noncollision, 4% grade crashes, 2% in collisions with trucks or horses, 6.5% unreported.

Tractor overturns kills Crawford farmer in mud hole
Willie Wheeler, 44, was killed instantly on his Crawford area farm when a tractor bogged and toppled over backward while he attempted to free it from a mud hole. A second tractor from Crawford to remove the body took two hours. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Cory City with burial at Over. Surviving are his wife and three children.
