Clifton Juniors Place On Regional Band Tryouts

Eighteen Clifton High Junior Band members led by Bill Brown traveled to Corsicana for Regional 3 tryouts on February 29. First band members Steve Rester Ruthie Hoel and Darrell Spenrath earned top chairs, with several second band selections also noted. a concert followed that evening while other members performed in the reading band. The Clifton Senior Band will compete April 1–2 at Marlin in the Inter scholastic League Playing Contest, with two required pieces one self selected, and sight reading graded.

Mrs. Gus Muller Hips Fracture Hospitalized

Mrs. Gus Muller of Route 3 Valley Mills broke her hip in a Monday fall and received a hip pin on Wednesday. Her friends hope for a quick mend. Allen and Milton Grimland with their families visited their uncle Gus Buswold in Austin last Sunday and enjoyed The Clifton Record.

E O Boettcher Dies in Clifton at 77

E O Boettcher a Clifton businessman died of a heart attack in his Boettcher Grain and Lumber office Monday night. He was 77 years old, had long ties to Clifton, and previously lived in Hackberry Hico Houston and Dallas. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a respected chef known for hospitality.

Lake Whitney Association to award trophies at Clifton meeting

The Lake Whitney Association will present trophies for top bass and crappie fishermen for November through February at a Clifton meeting on Tuesday night March 8 at 7 30 P M at Charlie's Cafe. St Paul and Trinity Lutheran Churches Vote to Merge

St Paul Lutheran Church east of Clifton and Trinity Lutheran Church of Clifton voted to merge their congregations. Both held meetings on February 28 and adopted identical resolutions to merge with services to continue at St Paul’s until impractical, suggesting January 1, 1961, as a merger date and maintaining current year stewardship programs.

H A White of the Fairview community died Thursday morning at 10 05 AM after injuries from an automobile accident on February 21 near the Thiele Store on the Coyote to Lake Whitney farm to market road. White developed pneumonia and complications in the hospital. Funeral plans were not yet announced.

Lions Club Cotton Jubilee a smash success in Clifton

Clifton Lions Club minstrel Cotton Pickin Jubilee drew strong crowds on February 25 and 26. The show grossed 1567.60 with net funds expected between 1000 and 1200 for community benefits. Top ticket sellers included Elaine Bakke Zeda Anne Jameson and Brenda Eggen.

Baby Annette Lynn Rueter Dies After Brief Illness

Annette Lynn Rueter infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren H. Rueter of Valley Mills died at Clifton hospital on March 2 after an enlarged heart. Born February 20 at the hospital, she had been home briefly then readmitted February 29. Funeral services were held March 3 at Martin and Scott Funeral Home Gatesville and St. John's Lutheran Coryell City with burial at St. John's Cemetery. Survived by sister Linda and grandparents Mrs. J. J. Meadors Clifton and Mrs. Gus Krueger Valley Mills.

Mr and Mrs Alton Holla baugh of Hillsboro purchased and took over the Et-Ux Cafe on Highway 6 north edge of Clifton from the Bryns Phillipses. Mrs. Mattie Phillips Dies After Long Illness

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mattie Phillips 80 of Meridian at Iredell Methodist Church on February 24. She died February 22 in Clifton hospital after a long illness. Born in Hunt County she lived in Iredell area most of life and moved to Meridian four years ago. She was widow of Conrad Phillips who died February 21, 1940. Survived by five sons Clyde Weldon Freeman and Wilson Phillips of Iredell George of Meridian and Talmadge Barnhill of Iredell. one daughter Mrs. Talmadge Barnhill. two sisters Mrs. Holder of Clifton and Mrs. Addie Cain of Morgan. 19% grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Clifton buyers report steady to strong cattle and grain prices

Prices posted Thursday morning show poultry at 24¢ a dozen for No 1s, grain with milling wheat at $1.90 a bushel and No 2 Red Oats at 70¢. Cattle at Clifton’s Wednesday sale offered about 325 head with steers and yearlings from $23 to $26.50, cows and calves $150 to $250, hogs topping at $15.00.
