Clifton Chamber to Host Walter Hailey as Banquet Speaker

Walter B. Hailey Jr. former emcee of The Light Crust Doughboys will speak at the Clifton Chamber of Commerce banquet and meeting Thursday March 24 at 7 p.m. at the Clifton National Guard Armory. Hailey is an oil and real estate businessman with extensive insurance, marketing, and civic leadership roles. He was born in Forney and served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

New 242nd Judicial District Created for Three Counties

Gov Dolph Briscoe signed a bill creating the 242nd judicial district serving Bosque Comanche and Hamilton counties along with 22 other new districts to ease crowded dockets. The measure costs about 835 660 annually and includes appointments for judges and district attorneys effective April 1 1979 posts through Jan 1 1979 elections.

Smiths acquire Dublin Progress in Texas town move

James W. Smith of Clifton and W. Leon Smith of Evant acquire The Dublin Progress. Plans include moving to Dublin, transferring the water well drilling business, and continuing printing and office services. Roger Ratliff buys the well rig equipment to continue drilling operations.
