Clifton Mayor Cris E. Pierson addresses street paving delays at a City Council meeting. He notes only about five blocks have paving requests and urges blocks to gather all residents to sign up for curb and gutter work to secure better rates and funding through added taxes for nonparticipating residents.
A 19 year old Missouri hitchhiker was picked up near Waxahachie by two white men who robbed him at gunpoint of money clothes and a portable radio and forced him to jump from the car near Lakeside Village. He fled on foot and the robbers’ car was later seen near Blum but no arrests were reported.
Mrs. Dorothy Walsleben, a 16 year Goodall-Witcher Hospital employee and Tri-County League of Nurses member, was named Nurse of the Year at the San Antonio convention held June 19 21 representing the local league. Also attending were Mrs Faye Wallace Mrs Nancy Chaney Mrs Gladys Ramey of Clifton and Mrs Ora Gilmore of Turnersville.
Many stores banks and offices close Friday week July 4 in observance of Independence Day. A few establishments such as some gas stations and grocery stores serving travelers and picnickers stay open for public convenience.
The Norse community in Bosque County traces its roots to 1854 with Norwegian Lutherans influenced by Cleng Peerson. The Our Savior's Lutheran Church formed in 1869 grew from a small group, built a church by 1875, expanded with brick veneer, and earned the Texas Historical Building Medal in 1962.
Goodall-Witcher School of Vocational Nursing started a new class on June 9 with students from Valley Mills Clifton Laguna Park Waco Gatesville Meridian and Meridian. The 12 month course leads to graduation next spring under instructor and director Mrs Helen Amundson RN. The current class began August 28 and will graduate August 22 this year.
Bosque County Sheriff charged Eziquio G. Alvarez, 17, of Meridian and Glen Rose with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a Monday night stab in a Meridian cafe. Victim Johnny Torres, 23, of Morgan, remained in Hillcrest Hospital ICU in Waco. Alvarez arrested in Meridian Wednesday morning. County Attorney Leslie Vance said bond to be set by the judge Wednesday afternoon as investigations continue.
The City Council states it operates on the principle of the greatest good for the greatest number and invites interested citizens to the City Office to learn details and apply promptly through the mayor's closing remarks.
Clifton teams face a busy schedule amid a heat wave with standings tight in the Bi County Junior League. Bo Huley s Cards lead at 4 1 with John Lees Indians fourth at 2 3. Freshman and Pee Wee results include 11 8 Clifton Black Sox over Crawfills Gap Lions and 13 4 Freshman Lions over Freshman Blacks.
