Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home receives an additional 36000 grant increasing Hill-Burton funding to 472582 for a 76 bed expansion. The project costs 1275830 with Waco Construction Inc to finish in 38 days after construction starts. Administrators and board members visited Austin to discuss encumbrance and praised the home’s extended care program.
Ground breaking ceremony on June 14 brought together residents from Clifton and nearby cities to mark the start of a new building program led by Rev. L G Hannen man. The project awaits Hill Burton Part IV approval from Washington while preliminary utility work and food service reconstruction proceed.
Clifton Lions Club will hold Officers Installation and Ladies Night on June 24 at 7 36 pm in City Hall Dining Room. Past District Governor J A Houston of Waco will be principal speaker and installing officer. Clifton Public School boards vote unanimously to raise district taxes by 15 percent to cover a $15,000 budget increase. Superintendent Kent Appleby cites higher teacher salaries, supplies, and repairs, with $6,000 for state pay raises and the rest for rising costs.
Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse near Clifton marks its 100th founding with a two day celebration on June 28 and 29. An 8 p.m. program features former pastors Rev Elmer Larson and Rev Joel E Nelson, with reception and picture viewing to follow. Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. led by Rev Albert Petrich assisted by Rev Kenneth Solberg, plus a noon lunch by free will offering. Afternoon program includes sons of the congregation and several visiting pastors.
Valley Mills tops the Pee Wee standings at 5-0-1 while Clifton Red Sox 4-1-1 trail, as Clifton Freshman Blues move to 5-1 with a 16-4 win over Meridian. Clifton Blacks drop a late 11-7 contest, and a Valley Mills catcher is injured in a collision at Clifton.
