Honor Society Induction At Clifton High School

The Clifton High School National Honor Society held its spring induction on May 18 in Bettis Auditorium with a faculty dinner beforehand. Principal Joe Bryan conducted the ceremony, honoring new initiates and presenting certificates to graduating members.

Clifton Man Treated After Car Leaves Road on State Highway 6

Clifton resident William Tergerson, 1002 West Hackberry, was treated for lacerations at Goodall-Witcher Hospital Foundation after his 1976 two door sedan left State Highway 6 at 2 10 a.m. Sunday four miles north of Valley Mills and hit a state sign post. A second crash near Meridian Lake on Park Road 7 in Meridian State Park involved Gregory Salome of Waco driving a 1972 pickup that struck a tree. damage was moderate and the driver was uninjured.

The county keeps real and personal property tax at 80 cents per $100 for 1976. Road Bond 8 for Precinct 3 remains unchanged. A municipal election for Crawfills Gap voters is not yet called. Clifton ISD approves lunch price hike and related measures

The Clifton Independent School District board approved a five cent increase for grades 5 through 12 and adults, with breakfast prices unchanged. New lunch prices range from 55 to 65 cents depending on grade and status, while other staff and facility updates include bids for parking expansion and stadium fencing.

Tornadoes, hail hit area near Clifton and Valley Mills

The National Weather Service reports a tornado touched down between Clifton and Valley Mills around 9:20 p.m. Friday. Thunder, lightning, strong winds and hail were observed in Clifton with damage to trees buildings and roofs.

County Budget Vote Set for Wednesday at Meridian Courthouse

The county will act on the budget at 1 p.m. Wednesday June 30 at the county courthouse in Meridian. The Court will also meet as a Board of Equalization at 9 a.m. that day at the same venue.

Three Fires Responded To By Clifton VFD Last Week

The Clifton Volunteer Fire Department battled three blazes last week. A grass fire across from the football field occurred Thursday, a car fire at Walls Manufacturing Company Thursday afternoon, and a house fire at the Al Brownsworth residence 818 Alpha Plc Thursday.

Waco Man Appointed Officer in Charge at Clifton Post Office

Lewis L. McCulloch of Waco appointed officer in charge of the Clifton Post Office effective June 19 following retirement of Robert L Baldridge Jr. He began as substitute clerk in 1949 and has served as manager of the Bellmead Branch since 1974. He and his wife Frances Wingrove reside in Waco with two children Nancy and Greg. He plans to assist Clifton patrons until a permanent postmaster is named and enjoys fishing.

Clifton Gets $12170 Tax Rebate Check From State

Clifton receives a 12 170.79 dollar rebate from the Texas State Comptroller for the June share of the one cent city sales tax. Other towns listed include Dell $512.96 Meridian 393 377.69 Morgan 808.55 Valley Mills 182.45 Walnut Springs 490.3. Overall 312.9 million in rebates were mailed to 846 cities and towns. City rebates for 1976 are running 125 percent ahead of 1975 with rebates through June totaling 145.4 million this year.

Fair parade theme chosen for 1976 Clifton event

Central Texas Fair directors chose the theme Happiness Is for the 1976 parade with August 26 as the entry deadline. The group, led by Clyde Seljos, also reviewed QHS turnout, fair workdays, concessions receipts, and bids for a new exhibit building before a planned follow up meeting.

Lawn equipment theft reported by police chief

A rotary tiller valued at 300 dollars was stolen from a South Avenue residence last week. The theft was reported at 4 50 p m on Thursday and involved the back yard between June 24 and 17 according to Police Chief Alvin James.

Clifton PATH patrolman Billy Green joins force

Clifton Police Department hires Billy Green a former Granbury and Mansfield officer. Chief Alvin James says Green is certified as a law enforcement officer after a 350 hour training course. Born in Stephenville he graduated Granbury High School and has two young children with wife Nancy Barnes.

Clifton Guardsmen Train at Fort Hood for Summer Armor Work

Four cavalry troops of the Waco based 124th Cavalry Regiment join other unit members at Fort Hood for two weeks of summer training. The regiment traces to frontier horse cavalry but now uses mechanized tanks. Troop D from Austin will train in iNap of the Earth helicopter flight technique. The training begins Sunday with the division band playing Gary Owens March.
