Clifton area hospital and clinic expand with federal loan

A $550000 federal loan from Farmers Home Administration funds Goodall-Witcher Hospital Foundation and Clifton Medical and Surgical Clinic Association expansion. Project adds beds from 64 to 72, three new ICU beds, therapy space, and two doctors suites, joining hospital and clinic in one enclosed unit with a July 5 start and 300 day timeline.

Clifton postmaster Baldridge to retire after long service

Robert L. Baldridge Jr of Clifton will retire as postmaster this Friday after a 1963 start in the role. An officer in charge will be named this week by the Waco USPS section, with a selection board from the Dallas District to follow. Douglas Railsback is noted as the only Clifton-emplaced candidate with experience, though at least two other district employees are expected to enter the competition.

Clifton rancher J Bruce Parks dies at 67

J Bruce Parks a prominent Clifton third generation rancher and businessman died at his Clifton area ranch home from a heart attack on Wednesday June 9. The funeral at First United Methodist Church in Clifton featured "Stewardship of the Land" as a central theme with organ pieces and hymns. Interment was at the Parks Ranch with graveside songs by Mrs. John Phil Gilliam and Mrs. B C Bennett Jr. Parks, born March 30 1909 in Clifton, was educated at Clifton High and Texas Tech University.

Weekend break at Walls Industries reported

Walls Industries in North Highway 6 was broken into over the weekend with entry through a window. Bars were pulled loose and the window unlocked, affecting an undetermined set of items. The break happened between 5 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Monday. A 1973 two door hardtop sustained light damage after a parking incident on North Ave. D at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. An individual was arrested at 8:10 p.m. June 9 for drunken public behavior.

Morgan petition seeks beer and wine sales vote in Meridian

Morgan residents seek county vote to legalize off premise beer and wine sales. Commissioners' Court rejected a prior petition for lack of legal compliance amid objectors claims. Mayor Alden Rogers and 12 others filed a new petition to be reviewed at the July 12 meeting.
