Frontier Indians Raid and Militia March 1865 Accounts
Readable fragments recount Texas frontier actions in December 1864 to January 1865. Columns describe Indian incursions by Kickapoos along the Clear Fork and Elm Creek, militia calls from counties including Erath Johnson and Comanche, and Colonel Barry assigning Captain Totten to lead forces to Camp Salmon. The tale notes severe cattle losses, desertion of counties, and preparations through snow to reach Dove Creek and the Colorado to engage in advancing operations toward Knickerbocker.
