Palmer Murder Trial Ends With Hung Jury
Jurors in Meridian reported they could not reach a unanimous verdict after four hours of deliberation in the James K. Palmer murder trial. The jury voted 11 to 1 for conviction, prompting a mistrial and the next trial to be scheduled. Palmer faced charges in the 1970 shooting death of Ronnie George.

Joint Services Held for Victims of Wreck Easleys
A three vehicle collision near Caldwell Friday claimed its second victim with the deaths of Barbara Easley 32 of Valley Mills and her husband Tony G Easley 35. Barbara died at St Joseph Hospital in Bryan about five hours after the crash. She was aunt to Mrs Tommy Mann Jr of Clifton and cousin of Mrs John Tom Gillaspie of Clifton. The Easley children remained in the hospital.

Funeral services were held for Dorann Gill Whitford 31 of Meridian killed when her car overturned on Highway 22 near Lake Whitney early Sunday. The First Methodist Church in Meridian hosted services with Bristor Lawson Funeral Home directing. Highway Patrolman Gerald Baker of Clifton investigated.
