Clifton High School Names All Around Students at May 27 Assembly

Clifton High School announced the all around students at an assembly on May 27 in the Bettis Auditorium. Principal Walter Nanen presented numerous awards to seniors and juniors, including home economics honors and Make It With Wool participants, with special recognitions for perfect attendance and achievement in FHA and National Honor Society activities.

Cliftonites Graduate From Hill Junior College

Three Clifton residents received Certificates of Completion at Hill Junior College in Hillsboro during an 8:00 p m commencement on Monday May 31. Recipients were David Leon Kettler Linda Kay Lyon and Glenn Dale Murphree. J D Moore of Victoria College gave the address. John A Standefer of Hillsboro sits on the Hill Junior College Board of Regents, a Clifton native.

Clifton Students Earn Degrees At Southwest Texas State

Two Clifton students earned degrees at Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos during the May 20 ceremony in Strahan Gym. A W Vickrey received a bachelor of science in industrial arts and Sandra Appleby earned a bachelor of science in education.

Talent Show Winners Highlight Clifton Event Night

Clifton hosted a talent show at Bettis Auditorium on May 28 attracting a fooded audience. Sixteen entries competed with top prizes totaling 400 dollars for the Adult Group and 3 dollars for child and youth winners as winners included Rita Pat Rallshack Cindy White Betty Booth and others from Meridian Walnut Springs Whitney and Hico.

Rainfall totals highlight wet May and harvest delays

Official Clifton gauge records 13.80 inches of rain for May with 1.30 inches since last Wednesday. The past week shows 0.50 inch on May 30 and 0.89 inch on May 31 as readings are taken daily at 7:00 am, hindering farmers from finishing harvest due to the heavy rains.

May 39 Seniors Receive Diplomas At Clifton High

Fifty nine Clifton High seniors the largest class in memory were awarded diplomas at commencement in the Bettle Auditorium on May 27. The program featured Christ ie Jenson and Lila Musselman as valedictorian and salutatorian with Kay Roberts and Peggy Aars at the piano. Frank M Wilson of Waco delivered the address on character conduct contribution and creed. Principal Hansen awarded Balfour trophies and a $25 scholarship to Alton Muhthouse on behalf of the Business and Professional Woman's Guild.

Clifton High National Honor Society Honors Teachers

Members of the Clifton High School National Honor Society hosted a reception for local teachers in the Homemaking Department on Wednesday afternoon May 26. The society, formed in the 1963 64 school year, extended a tradition from that year end reception. Students arranged the refreshment table with a white linen cloth and red gladioli centerpiece and served punch and cookies. Mrs. Frederick Pearson, business teacher, sponsors the society.

4.4 Miles New Farm to Market Road Approved for Bosque

The Texas Highway Commission approved 44 miles of Farm to Market Road in Bosque County as part of the 1965 program. District Engineer J H Aiken of Waco announced the work will be supervised by TH Ralph of Clifton. The project includes 0.4 mile from FM 2704 to the McLennan County line and 40 miles from FM 2602 to FM 217 near State Highway 6.

Reverend and Mrs Joel E Nelson from Watertown South Dakota visited in Clifton from Thursday to Tuesday with their daughter in law and son Mr and Mrs Vernon Swenson and family. Nelson a former pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse was born and raised here.

Gerald Rice Honored by Texas 4 4 Foundation

Gerald Rice of this city, district sales representative with Community Public Service Company, was among 12 honored at College Station on June 1 during the Texas 4 4 Youth Development Foundation ceremony at Kyle Field Stadium. He serves on the Texas Electric Utility Company board and helped furnish a 4 H camp at Lake Whitney. He trains electric teams and leads county 4 H activities, receiving a specially designed plaque from Calvin T. Johnson.

Dist Commander to Install New Legion Officers

Austin McElfish of Waco will be in Clifton at 8:00 p.m. Thursday June 10 to install the incoming officers of Selmer Erickson Post No. 322 of the American Legion. Officers for 1965-66 elected May 13 include Bud Thrower commander and Erich Herzog 2nd vice commander with Selmer Amundson adjutant and finance and other posts listed.
