Bosque County Families Benefit From Tax Shift In Spending

Special to the Record reports that rising incomes and saving enabled local families to boost discretionary spending after covering taxes, food, clothing, and housing. The Tax Foundation study cites Bosque County taxes totaling about 3630 dollars per family annually with average yearly earnings around 7920 dollars, leaving 1 hour 11 minutes of a workday for other purchases. The Commissioners Court convenes at 9 a.m. Thursday July 29 at the Meridian courthouse, rescheduled from July 30.

Senior boys open regional tournament play in Waco

The Brazos Valley League leaders with an 11-1 record, the Senior Boys' Baseball Team, start regional action Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Waco. They have a bye as Leggett of Waco faces a Comanche squad in a three team double elimination event, with the victor advancing to Victoria for state finals on August 27. Scott Sumrall of Whitney and Ken Evans of Hillsboro have joined the team.

Bosque County reports 38.9 percent of women over 16 in the labor force, about 2,000 of 5,140 working age women. National share is 39.8 percent with a trend toward outside jobs among married and younger women, increasing family incomes.

Clifton Junior Girls Softball Team Heads to Brownwood

Clifton supporters raise funds for a three day state tournament trip in Brownwood. Estimated cost about 756 dollars with 678.44 raised so far and the balance promised by the Clifton Baseball Association. Special thanks to Lions Club and American Legion for 100 dollar gifts, plus 25 dollar contributions from the Clifton Bank Dr Key VFW Erwin's Cabinet Shop and Sears. Many Clifton and Laguna Park residents donated 25 cents to 10 dollars.

Social Security Benefits in Bosque County Hit 576000 Monthly

Bosque County residents received 576 215 dollars in social security payments each month at the start of 1976. Al Bracken, social security manager in Waco, stated 3 671 beneficiaries include 2 168 retired workers 1 294 dependents and 209 disabled individuals. There are 906 under 65 and 2 765 aged 65 plus. Among beneficiaries 1 530 are men 1 875 women and 487 children. All benefits rose 6.4 percent last June.

Repairs planned for Clifton area school roofs

Repairs to storm damaged roofs at Clifton High School and Clifton Elementary School were approved at a Clifton Independent School District board meeting. Emergency work costing about 1300 will cover fifth and sixth grade classrooms at the Elementary School and a bid process for the CHS roof was authorized. The contractor must guarantee two years against leaks. Fence extension near the Lions Club concession stand was approved at about 100 dollars.

CHS 26 Reunion Sets Aug 7 at Civic Center

Clifton High School's 1926 senior class plans a reunion Saturday August 7 at the Civic Center with 55 members plus spouses expected. Registration 2 to 4 p.m. includes tours, memorial service at 6 p.m., catered dinner, and an open house for relatives and friends after.

Home Economics Show to entertain visitors at Central Texas Fair

Mrs T N Foster announces the Home Economics Show will be held in the Little Alamo during the Central Texas Fair on August 26 to 28. In 1931 eighty two exhibitors displayed over one thousand items. Judging will occur in two sessions morning and evening to pace entries. The Fair Association plans a shaded canopy for registering and new exhibit space. fundraising continues for a concrete slab and steel building estimated at twenty five thousand dollars. Second arrest in auto burglary case tied to Meridian

Police Chief Alvin James says a second arrest on a felony auto burglary charge has been made, with the suspect moved to Lauderdale County jail in Meridian. The July 20 arrest followed a June 22 report of a car battery theft from a West 11th Street vehicle, while a June 25 collision on West 5th Street and North Avenue caused minor damage to a 1968 sedan and a 1971 convertible.

Fort Gates City Council named Jerry Wittie former Clifton police officer as city marshal after Fabian Klecka resignation. Wittie had left Clifton police to run for county sheriff as a Democrat and moved after losing the election.
