Mustangs state champs

Clifton Mustangs 18 girl Junior Girls Softball Team of the Texas Teen-Age Baseball League won their Brazos Valley League division title and advanced to Brownwood for the state tournament. The lineup featured Lisa Rowe Denise Ballard Yvonne Baker Beth Bronstad and Julia Culp among others as they defeated Brownwood 7 4 in the opener and later beat Mineola 21 hits and 13 runs in their second game.

Clifton reports seniors and youths top accident groups

A 1975 traffic safety study for Clifton shows drivers over 65 accounted for 23 percent of accidents, while ages 16 to 19 comprised 20 percent. The report, prepared by MCC Office of Traffic Safety, notes 97 total crashes with no fatalities and 22 injuries. Four misdemeanor arrests followed.

Rotary governor to visit Rosane County Clifton Club this week

Colin Ick Hook, Rotary International District 587 governor born in London and founder of Ick's Upholstery, will visit Rosane County Clifton Rotary Club meeting with President Richard Smith and Secretary Donald L. Finstad. He will address a club assembly at Schmidt's Downtown Restaurant and speak at the Thursday luncheon at 12 10 p m. Lions governor to visit Clifton Lions Club Tuesday

Jack Baggett of Corsicana district governor of Lions International will make his official visit to the Clifton Lions Club Tuesday at noon at the Clifton Civic Center. All Lions are urged to attend and the Clifton Civic Improvement Society will serve the noon meal. Dr. Ernest Ericsson, president, will conduct the meeting.

Opening of Schools Nears in Clifton Independent District

The Clifton Independent School District will begin classes on Thursday, August 19, with schedules available for junior high and high school students at their campuses. Morgan liquor vote on Saturday in Morgan

Morgan voters will decide Saturday whether to legalize beer and wine sales for off premise consumption. Balloting runs 7 am to 7 pm at Morgan City Hall. Absentee voting ended Tuesday. Presiding judge is Pauline Finke with A J Philips as alternate. Clerks are Bud Kimball and Mrs J E Neelds.

Counties receive mixed drink tax shares from quarter

Bosque County received 384.78 and Clifton 55.56 as their share of the quarterly mixed drink tax. The state collected 10.8 million in mixed drink taxes for April to June. Checks totaling 1.6 million went to 188 counties and 1.5 million to 310 cities. The rest, 7.7 million, stayed in the general fund.
