Former Somervell County Sheriff Paul Bone, of Glen Rose, was sentenced to ten years in the state penitentiary for misapplication of public funds after a Meridian jury found him guilty following a venue change. The case involved misappropriation of about $22,000 in tax money, with earlier mistrial and a June Glen Rose trial. District Attorneys Mahanay and McClellan prosecuted, Balton assisted.

Stolen Car Recovered Here Two Teens Arrested
Truman Norris nightwatchman of the Clifton Police Department recovered a stolen automobile Monday night and jailed two Woodville teens. The 17 and 18 year olds were stopped on Highway 4 at 12:30 A.M. and admitted stealing the 1955 Chevrolet in Houston. Chief James Bird aided in owner identification as the pair awaited transfer to Houston authorities.

Two Sunday Car Accidents Near Clifton Leave Cars Damaged
Two automobile accidents occurred Sunday near Clifton. At 4 15 p m Mrs J B Darden Sr and Miss Mildred Lewis collided near the Bosque River bridge causing over 100 dollars damage to Darden and over 200 to Lewis. Lewis had arrived for a visit with sisters in Clifton. At about 6 p m Johnny Shotgun Kettler’s car rolled over on a Womack road trip from Lake Whitney. he escaped injury though the vehicle was a total wreck.

Valley Mills Resident Dies in Waco
Mrs. Prentice Yerby 54 of Valley Mills died Sunday morning in a Waco hospital after moving from Waco six years ago. Surviving husband and six children include Ronald Richard Robert Yerby Karen Elliott and Joyce Masters. Funeral services were held July 21 at St Albans in Waco with interment at Valley Mills Cemetery.

Wilson Cowen Sworn In as Judge in Washington
Wilson Cowen was sworn Tuesday July 14 as Chief Judge of the United States Court of Claims in Washington. The Clifton native, son of the late Mrs. Cowen, succeeds retiring Chief Judge Marvin Jones with a ceremony attended by family, friends, and Kennedy presenting the oath. Cowen has served the court as a commissioner for over 20 years and later visited Clifton with his brother Joe and sister-in-law in Belton.

Bosque County Farm Bureau members at Meridian State Park voted to purchase the former Gill espie Building in Clifton from Ted B. Evans for 6500 dollars to house the bureau office. A 1000 dollar down payment was authorized with the rest financed over 12 years at 53.68 dollars per month. They plan to move to 318 West 5th Street around September 1 after renovations and seek volunteers for office setup.

Oric W Poe Dies in Clifton at 44 After Illness
Oric Weldon Poe of Route 2 Valley Mills died Friday July 17 in Clifton hospital at about 12 15 am. He had leukemia diagnosed in 1962 and received Houston clinic treatment including radiation in May. A WWII veteran awarded Good Conduct Medal, he later worked in Clifton as a grocer and farmer and served in the American Legion. Born September 29 1919 near Morgan, he was the son of Johnie Poe and Ola Lee Rollins Poe and attended Cedron Allen Bend and Kopper high schools. He is survived by his parents and his wife and family.
