CRANFILLS GAP NEWS notes Mrs Viola Eason remains in Clifton hospital for medical observation. Also mentioned are returns, visits, and family gatherings across Clifton Plainview and surrounding towns, including reunions and travels of local families.
Mr and Mrs Herbert Schramm and daughter Kay of Route 1 Clifton left Thursday to visit daughter and sister Marilyn Schramm Brough in Aspers Pennsylvania for more than two weeks. Ennis Colwick spent last Sunday in Arlington with son in law Wayne Rohne and grandson Bruce. Rev Kenneth Solberg and son Michael visited near Clifton with his parents Joseph and L Solberg. Mrs T L Dixon and Edna Ruth visited Lake of the Pines Longview with Rudolph Greer and sons Randy Richard and Douglas Ray. Richard and Douglas Ray stayed with grandmother and aunt for two weeks in Clifton.
Informal gatherings in Clifton mark a two week visit by Mrs. Ralph E. Heid and her children Barbara James and John from Plymouth Michigan. They joined relatives and friends across Texas including Fort Worth San Angelo Karnes City Corsicana and Dallas in meals and farm visits before returning home.
Miss Sandra Aanenson and Miss Maggie Hays of Wm. Cameron & Co. in Waco spent the past weekend here with Miss Aanenson’s mother Mrs. Sanders Aanenson.
Local Clifton hospital patients from Bosque County are listed with home towns and dates. Names include Mrs. A D Majors Morgan, Mrs. R L Willis Walnut Springs, Mrs J R Latham Jr Jonesboro, Jim Gouldman Laguna Park and wife, O A Adams Clifton, Erwin Conrad, H C Wommack Hico, Mrs John Bohne Valley Mills, Stanley Neal McGregor, J L Lundberg Valley Mills, R L Burton Turnersville, Roy A Pickett Baytown, Mrs Barney L Ray Jonesboro, John W Wood Star Route Clifton, Mrs C F Waller Waco, J M Jones Waco, and O W Pee Valley Mills.
Clifton resident Mrs. Iva Arizona Whisenant Culwell died at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio after a stroke on June 4 and extended illness. Born May 5, 1880 in Erath County, she was married to James W. Culwell in 1908 and had four sons. Her husband served 22 years as a Methodist minister before retiring in 1943, and the family lived across several towns in Central Texas. She was active in the Methodist Church and held a life membership in the Women’s Society of Christian Service.
Reverend Culwell preceded his wife in death June 15 1957. Mrs Culwell’s companion Marie Redfield cared for her during illness. Surviving are five sons James C Culwell Paul R Culwell John W Culwell H. H. Chambers and Commander Jackson P. Culwell plus a step daughter Vera Wilkey a sister Lily Smith nine grandchildren two great grandchildren. Funeral July 14 at First Methodist Clifton with pallbearers Clarence Handley Jesse White and others. Interment Clifton Memorial Park.
Mrs G L Polk and her friend Mrs Skipworth from Waco spent Sunday in Clifton with the Polks and Gloffs and Lt. Fred Wilson Jr his wife LaRay and daughter. They left for Fort Bragg North Carolina where Lt Wilson will undergo six weeks of special warfare training before overseas duty.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Pickett and daughters Pamela and Kathy of Baytown are visiting with aunts Grace Henry and Inez Larsen and cousin Raymond Rogstad. Mrs. James B. Perkins and children John Jimmy Jeffrey and Suzanne from Stamford arrived to spend six weeks with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McCown, with Mr. Perkins planning to fly in for two weekends during the stay.
