Smith Bend Bridge Contract Awarded
The Delbert Ward Construction Company of San Antonio was the low bidder at 88390 for the Smith Bend bridge project on Farm to Market Road 2411 across the States River in Bosque County. Construction should start within 30 days and take about four months to finish. The road has reached the river on both Bosque and Hill County sides. The Hill County fork leads to Aquilla and Gholson, with the Gholson route continuing to Waco.

Mrs Bernhardt Dies After Long Ill Health at 82
Mrs. Herman Bernhardt died July 15 in the Chase community near Clifton at 6:30 am. She was 82 years old and had suffered with hardening of the arteries, bedridden for three years and cared for by her daughter Marie Bernhardt. Funeral services were held July 17 at Zion United Church of Christ in Womack with interment in Chase Cemetery. She leaves ten children and was married March 27 1901 to Herman Bernhardt.

Fred Hill of Amarillo arranged 31 Santa Fe cattle cars to move 1206 head of cattle from Clifton to Greeley Colorado and Illinois. The cattle sourced from three central Texas ranchers brought a premium per pound and were weighed by Clifton Livestock Commission Co. before trucking to Amarillo for rest and feed.

Lawrence S. Evans was named to the Farmers Home Administration County Committee serving Bosque and Somervell Counties. He joins A. M. Anderson and Ward C.
