Clifton Pee Wee and Freshmen Blues vie for Kopperl tourney titles

In Kopperl this week Clifton Blue Sox and Pee Wee All Stars compete for finals spots. The Pee Wee All Stars lost 43 to by the Koppers Pee Wees in a close game. Clifton Blue Sox shut out Meridian Freshmen All Stars 90 to insure a finals berth. The Freshmen Blues aiming for state Little League playoffs hold a strong record as they eye a late July finish.

Vacation Bible School Underway at First Baptist Clifton

Vacation Bible School started Tuesday July 16 at First Baptist Church Clifton and runs through July 26 with sessions Tuesday through Friday from 6 30 a m to 11 30 a m. Parents Night closes July 26 at 7 00 p m. Volunteers include Pastor Clay Burns and multiple department superintendents and workers. A teen school is planned each night July 22 directed by Donnie Duluius.

Bank Deposits Up Almost 1 Million in Clifton Call

The Farmers State Bank of Clifton reports deposits at the June 29, 1968 call totaling $8,261,795.11, up $985,744.02 from a year earlier and over $1.5 million growth in two years. Loans and discounts rise to $4,503,221.70, while total resources exceed $9 million for the first time at $9,084,630.79, up $1,093,171.31 from a year ago.

Bonds Planned for Bosque County Road District 8 Paving

Residents of Road District No. 8 in Bosque County gathered in Laguna Park to hear plans for a $40,000 bond issue to pave a loop of streets linking with Farm to Market Road. The plan, discussed by the Bosque County Commissioners Court, includes a 20 year bond with stepped interest and options to retire after 15 years.

ASCS Announces Soon Farm Payment Dates for 1968 Wheat

Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee chairman Jack L. Rowland said payments for 1968 wheat certificates will begin after July 15 for eligible wheat farms with or without feed grain bases. The 1968 wheat parity value is $2.63, with certificates worth $1.58 per bushel, and payments may cover up to 40 percent of the farm's wheat allotment. Final payments for feed grain and cotton programs follow after August 12, with advance options offered at signup.

Six Hurt in Bosque County One-Car Wrecks

Six people were hurt in three separate Bosque County traffic incidents over six days. The most serious crash occurred Sunday near Valley Mills when a 51 Ford driven by Jerry Lee Crawford, 26, of Dallas, lost brakes and rolled on FM 217 at Highway 6. Dudley Newland, 18, of Mesquite, was seriously injured and listed in fair condition. Crawford and five other passengers had minor cuts and bruises.

Grant OK'd For Central Tex. Senior Citizens FIND

The Hill Country Community Action of San Saba received a July 8 notice that a $49,707 grant from the Office of Economic Opportunity funds project FIND for seniors in a 16 county Central Texas area including Bosque County. Local share is $13,200. jobs include director four area coordinators and nine aides. Applications are sought via Ed Lamb in Brownwood or Fred Whittenburg in San Saba. The program will be directed from the San Saba HCCA office.

Clifton Scouts Headed to Camp Tahuaya for Weeklong Adventure

Seventeen Clifton Boy Scouts from Troop 76 sponsored by the Clifton Lions Club arrive at Camp Tahuaya five miles south of Belton on I 35 for a week of outdoor scouting. Scoutmaster Paul F Barnett with assistants Terry Watson and Seth Wincher lead the group along with senior and multiple patrol leaders and listed scouts in attendance.
