Clifton Junior Girls win league title in undefeated season
The Clifton Mustangs girls softball team claimed the league championship under manager C W Williams with a 15 to 0 win over Valley Mills on June 24 led by Lisa Rowe no hit and key scorers Denise Ballard Kathy Horak and Sherri Pierce. They later beat Hubbard 25 to 1 and edged China Spring 13 to 5 as they chase the district crown before the July district playoff in Harker Heights with Houston as the ultimate target.

Kopperl Man Arrested on Marijuana Charge
Kopperl man was arrested at 2 a.m. Saturday on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana. He was stopped in a car on Highway 56 between Kopperl and Lakeside Village and confined to the county jail in Meridian pending court action.

Lance Meinzer of Route 1 China Spring wins all around at Monahans AIRA rodeo by earning money in steer riding barrel racing and goat tying. He competes in AJRA events and is high in world standings for barrel racing pole bending and goat tying and has qualified for the AJRA national finals. He is a 4H Horse Club member with multiple horse judging wins at Texas A&M University and top county awards for his 4-H project and district 4-H camp horse track.

Neils Creek League champions from each division will represent the league in district tournaments the week of July 25 for boys and July 18 for girls. All Stars from each division meet in Clifton with games starting Friday at 6 for girls softball and 8 for Pony League. Saturday features Midget at 6 then Freshmen around 8. Sheriff Baxter told the Commissioners Court in Meridian residents are reporting crimes to aid police work. A house fire on Farm Market Road 219 west of Clifton damaged a den and living room with four Clifton firefighters on scene. No injuries occurred. Two vehicle crashes last week on West 5th Street and East Street caused light damage. no injuries reported.
