Pickup Stolen From Schmidt Meyer Lot In Clifton

A 1976 cream over bronze Chevrolet tow pickup was stolen from the Schmidt Meyer used car lot on State Highway 6. Police received the report at 8 30 am Friday. The locked vehicle with no keys was not located. Clifton police described the suspect vehicle to authorities and investigators.

Rotary installs Clifton officers at Tom Parks Ranch

The Bosque County Clifton Rotary Club installed officers led by Hubert Johnson, former Clifton mayor and Rotary official. Clarence Fields Jr. became president with Donald Finstad as VP and Joe Bryan as secretary, Richard Lundberg as treasurer. New directors include Charles Maddux, Robert Raching, Calvin Rueter, Terry Spicer, and Shelby Richardson. Two new members Jack Dickie and Steve Schmidt were inducted.

Kopperl residents to meet sheriff over rising crime

Sheriff Baxter will meet Kopperl residents at the Kopperl school to discuss law enforcement amid nighttime vandalism and vehicle violations in the Bosque County town. Citizens voiced fear and called for accountability as deputies logged 19 Kopperl calls since January.

Kopperl Man Arrested On Burglary Charge

A Kopperl man was confined to the county jail in Meridian on a felony burglary charge awaiting bond. Sheriff John O. Baxter arrested Jackie Latham Jr. Friday night at Lake Whitney after a burglary at Kopperl School Thursday. A juvenile from Kopperl was questioned in connection with the break. a hearing is pending.

Billy Anz Chosen for European Youth Concert Tour

Billy Joe Anz Jr of Clifton is selected for America’s Youth in Concert 1977 program at the University Academy of Music Princeton New Jersey. The four week tour includes London Paris Geneva Innsbruck Venice Florence Rome with performances at Carnegie Hall and other venues under university conductors.

Olson touts legislative gains and no new taxes

State Rep. Lyndon Olson told the Clifton Lions Club the 65th Texas Legislature delivered sound results with minimal oversights. He cited a $15.5 billion budget, a sunset law, creation of 48 new courts, and increased funding for highways while avoiding new taxes and preserving government stability.

Ground broken for new Fair building at Clifton fairgrounds

Ground breaking for a 45 by 75 foot exhibits building at Clifton fairgrounds occurred with minor ceremony. Roger Mitchell drove in fill from Chemical Lime Inc. while Charles Lindley, Melvin Prescher and others leveled the site. Funds total about 6000 toward a 20000 goal as work aims to finish by the August 25 to 27 fair dates.

Police report quiet holiday in Clifton

Clifton had a holiday weekend with no accidents or arrests, reported by Police Chief Alvin James. A considerable number of calls about illegal fireworks were received, officers reminded offenders of the city ordinance banning fireworks within the city limits.

State screening clinics planned in Bosque and surrounding counties

Texas Department of Health Resources aims to establish monthly screening clinics in Clifton Meridian and possibly Valley Mills with sites at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. The program will expand in Bosque Coryell Hamilton and Hill Counties to provide preventive care and early disease detection via nurses and technicians, with referrals to physicians as needed.

City police urge residents not to visit station for help

Chief Alvin James reminded residents this week that they do not need to come to the police station to request a police officer. People can call 675-3688 any time for assistance and a dispatcher at the Meridian sheriff's department will contact Clifton officers to respond.

Bosque County Farm Bureau seeks queen and talent entrants

The Bosque County Farm Bureau calls for applicants for the Queen of Bosque County and talent find contests. Eligible entrants are aged 16 to 22, never married, and related to active Farm Bureau members. Winners advance to district and state levels with an all expense paid trip in July 1978 to Washington, D.C. and Williamsburg. Entry blanks are at the Bosque County Farm Bureau office. due by July 15.
