Clifton Forms 5 Member Housing Authority for Rent Project
The Clifton City Council authorized the creation of a five member housing authority to study and oversee a potential federal funded rent housing project. Aldermen Smith and Blewett led Tuesday night’s motion with Mayor Pierson appointing the members subject to council approval. The authority would coordinate with federal representatives, assess housing needs, and manage construction and operation if a project proceeds.

Clifton Council Sets Tax Board Hearing and Tractor Bid
Clifton City Council schedules the first Monday in August at 7 p.m. for a public equalization board meeting and tax hearing in City Hall. Bids from four firms for a crawler tractor ranged from 8 990 to over 13 000. Highway Machine Co. of Waco had the low bid. The council will study bids and may view tractors before purchase. The city dump will be off limits to nonresidents who pay no city taxes. A land donation offer was made to the Clifton School District for water and sewer service. A complaint about raw sewage odor was referred to the city secretary for investigation. Yield signs were approved at three intersections, and Jesse Hammock, CPA, was hired as city auditor for another year.

Skeet Shoot and Barbecue Planned by Clifton Gin Club
Clifton Gin Club directors elected Ted Evans as president replacing Dr. W. D. Goodall. A skeet shoot and barbecue supper were planned for Sunday July 23 at the club range south of FM 219 with guest Ed Ray from Gatesville and about 30 local shooters expected. Members and area residents are invited to join.
