Texas Flag Over Capitol Restores Sergeant Vannatta Pride

A Texas-native sergeant in Vietnam faced ridicule over an import flag size. State Senator Ward arranged a Texas flag flown over the Austin Capitol on July 13, with an official document confirming the honor. The Recard notes the Record helped arrange the image and publicize the gesture.

Clifton Pee Wee Greens Win All Star Tourney Invite

Clifton earns invitation to an invitational Freshman and Pee Wee All Star tournament at Kopper next week. Teams Clifton Meridian Koppert and Covington will compete. rain could alter plans. Clifton Greens won the Pee Wee title in the Neils Creek League with a 5 2 score over Meridian Blues and most trophies to be awarded at the final Freshman game.

Gap Leads Clifton City Softball League Second Round

The Gap team stays atop the Clifton City Softball League second round while CPS and the Outlaws trade wins. Last week the Outlaws edged Gap 3 to 2, CPS beat Wilsons 16 to 12, and Gap beat Wilsons 9 to 8 as CPS routed the Outlaws 14 to 4. Tonight the Outlaws meet Wilsons at 7 and Gap faces CPS at 8:30 with rain postponement possible to Monday.

Central Texas Fair plans advance with August dates set

Plans are underway for the Central Texas Fair to be held August 31 to September 2 in Clifton. The event, in its 35th year, offers 337 classes across live stock and home economics divisions, with catalogues printed by The Record and entries due by August 28 for home economics and August 23 for livestock. The fair features numerous officials, superintendents, and an advisory committee guiding Junior Livestock and Junior Home Economics shows.

Clifton Gun Club Skeet Shoot and Barbecue Set for July 23

The Clifton Gun Club plans a skeet shoot from 2 p.m. to dusk on Sunday July 23 followed by a barbecue supper. Tickets go on sale soon through club members Ed Ray of Gatesville a former All American Skeet Team member will be invited as a special guest and about 30 local shooters plus several out-of-town members are expected to attend.

Firemen Training At A&M In 38th Texas School

Harold Kettler Clyde Seljos and M R White lead Clifton volunteers at the 38th Annual Texas Firemen training held on the Texas A&M campus this week. More than 2 000 men from about 30 states attend with co sponsorship from Clifton City Bosque County Farm Bureau and Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Companies aiding 140 volunteers funded by the program aims to boost fire fighting in Bosque County.

Meridian Open Rodeo Set for July 20 22 Nights

The Meridian Horse Show Association stages a three day Open Rodeo July 20 21 22 at 8 30 p m with a 6 p m downtown parade July 20. Roland Reid of Double R Ranch Fort Worth produces the show with clowns acts and a contest for clubs with most riders in uniforms. Contestants may enter July 19 at 9 a m Mary Jo Reid secretary. Events include bareback bronc bull riding calf roping ladies barrel race bull dogging saddle bronc. Admission adults 1.00 children under 12 50 cents.

Four Wrecks Leave No One Hurt In County Roads

Across four separate wrecks over July days, no injuries were reported. Vehicles included a cow struck on State Highway 6 near Valley Mills, a single vehicle crash on FM 2114 near Smith Bend, a two car impact on a county road west of Meridian, and a deer collision west of Valley Mills.
