Lake Whitney span near completion shows unique bridge conversion
Texas highway officials report a rail to road bridge over Lake Whitney on FM 1718 is nearing completion. Contractors Stamey Knight and G G Sarge Strickland converted a 3050 foot steel railway bridge built in 1990 into a 28 foot wide concrete highway structure with innovative formwork and floating supports. The project, valued at 542720, will save motorists about 32 miles by bypassing the lake area once finished in September.
