Texas lawmakers broadened immunization rules for students from kindergarten through college. Elementary students must receive diphtheria tetanus polio smallpox and measles rubella . junior high and high schools require diphtheria polio tetanus and smallpox . colleges mandate polio diphtheria tetanus and smallpox within ten years.
The Record notes a severe 1971 drought with only 7.30 inches of rain in the first six and a half months locally. By July 1970 total rainfall reached 14.90 inches and 1968 had 32.95 inches by July, making this year one of the driest in recent history with many days over 100 degrees.
The Clutton Scaougi faculty meetings and school registration will be held Monday, August 16. Regular classes begin Thursday, August 19, and the cafeteria and buses will start on that date. Further registration details and activities will be announced later.
Clifton School hosts a two week session for six year olds entering first grade from July 26 to August 6. Sessions run 8 30 to 11 30 a m with Mrs Otto Gangs her high school Home Economics assistants teaching. Refreshments provided mid morning. parents must provide transportation.
Detailed planning for the Meridian and Neils Creeks watershed project has begun. W C Hafer of the Bosque Soil and Water Conservation District says the Soil Conservation Service will aid local planners with field studies, flood history, and surveys to determine needed structural measures. Local sponsors include Bosque, Hamilton Coryell Soil and Water Conservation Districts, the Coryell Hamilton and Bosque County Commissioners Courts, and the Meridian and Neils Creeks Watershed Association.

Texas Football Magazine lists Clifton as the 2nd in District 10-AA behind McGregor. A pet show for young children will be added with judging at 11 a.m. in the fair barns and prizes awarded. General Fair Superintendent Homer McDougal seeks more vice supplies and barn expansion.
Clifton residents must conserve water as the city awaits a new well. Production is expected to begin after a pumping start on a Saturday with testing to follow. Officials warn severe rationing could occur if existing supply is compromised, urging careful use until the well is operational.
